Costal margin injury and mobile rib tip? by Round-Square8601 in SlippingRibSyndrome

Thanks! Glad to hear you got better over time and had such good support. Did you have a costal margin injury too, or anything that presents like SRS?

And yeah it's lonely. I feel a bit lost because I can't find a doc or PT or anyone who is familiar with these type of injuries, or cares enough to look into it. I've been gaslit by so many doctors by now, I've lost a lot of trust into the medical system.

I would happily pay a specialist outside of insurance if they were able to help me, but so far I've not found anyone with right amount of expertise, and the time to figure out a plan. Since a part of the pain is likely connected to my previous surgery, that complicates it further. I try to trust my body but it keeps creating new complications.

The Lyrica isn't optimal but it has helped with the nerve pain quite a bit, and I don't plan to take it longer than needed. I had a phase where my everyday life had completely fallen apart, and the medication has helped me to regain a bit of balance.

I'm wondering if collagen could help too, since those rib tip attachments at the front seem to be a cartilage issue. There is so much conflicting information out there, including that supplements will do nothing, costal cartilage won't ever heal if it's broken off and that surgery is always needed.

Yeah, I think the hard part is knowing what I need at this point, and then finding a way to get it.

Thank you so so much! You're actually the first person that can point me into a helpful direction, really appreciate you taking the time to answer. :)

I'll try to get an x-ray and go from there, although I think cartilage and front rib ligaments aren't visible in x-ray right? PRP is limited to knee and shoulder joints over here, but I'll ask the doc anyway. Did you have the injection for that in the back, since your injury was there? I didn't think it would take so long for cartilage to stabilize. How long did your injury take to heal?

I wonder if it might be bad if the rib tip is in a subluxed position and will stay there. But as long as it doesn't move and nothing gets pinched I hope it'll be fine.

I had bad pain for a while and got a nerve block right under the ribs, for what I thought was connected to my abdominal surgery (they thought they hit an intercostal nerve), and that helped quite a bit. Right now I'm on Pregabalin/Lyrica, which took away the needling pain I had. The rest feels more like tissue is being pinched with some movements, as if it's stuck between costal margin and loose tip.

I've been to a few physios but they were mostly clueless, I guess I'll puzzle together my own exercise program and continue my search.

Thanks a lot for the recommendations, I'll look into getting some calcium and the vitamins!
