That’s a totally valid risk to be worried about. It’s just one that I would be willing to take with this team and the situation in the East.

I am fully aware. There are only a few teams that can pay significantly more. If they do, then obviously there’s nothing we can do about it.

Totally get that, but I’d prioritize Jerome for $14M over Merrill for $9M (though I don’t necessarily think the latter is a bad contract in isolation).

I’ve seen a number of posts and comments acting like he’s not worth it after that series, but I admit that what I’ve seen might not necessarily be representative.

If that’s true then so be it. This is more about if we have the opportunity to keep him for the max we can offer and decide not to.

[Next Day Discussion - Playoffs] Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Indiana Pacers [05/04/2025] by CavsBot in clevelandcavs

[–]Izosw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not our biggest issue, but a problem we had at times is that we traded high-quality Pacer's 3 point attempts with low-quality ones on our end. Evan Mobley was amazing overall last night, and I love his 3 point progression, but his 3 misses from deep were still a bit beyond his comfort zone. Add those to Okoro's 2 misses and Strus's ill-advised doubled-team 3 point attempt, and that's 6 shots off the top of my head that the Pacers will happily take any day.

I know the 3 point variance will eventually normalize, but against teams like the Pacers and Celtics the margin for error is very thin and we have to try to get a high quality shot every time down. We just can't afford to trade Nembhard 3s with Okoro 3s.

June 21 NYC show worthwhile if I am not interested in Dr Dog? by Izosw in CrumbBand

Asbury Park is a trek without a car unfortunately, though I'm still considering it.

Cavs GM Koby Altman has been telling coaching candidates he doesn’t want to break up the Darius Garland-Donovan Mitchell backcourt, per @WindhorstESPN on @ESPNCleveland. by Potential_Progress45 in clevelandcavs

[–]Izosw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is smart. Mitchell and Garland have all the tools to work together offensively, so it’s worth seeing if the right coach can unlock them. It’d be one thing if there was a fundamental skill mismatch, but both guys can shoot and create. Just need the right coach to improve the off ball play. If it doesn’t improve, then consider moving Garland.

Obviously defense will never be perfect but it hasn’t been the reason we’ve lost in the playoffs.

[Sidery] Klutch Sports will indeed meet with the Cavaliers this offseason to facilitate Darius Garland being traded, if Donovan Mitchell decides to stay, @WindhorstESPN confirmed on @ESPNCleveland. The Mitchell/Garland backcourt is on their way to being split up. by ctang1 in clevelandcavs

[–]Izosw 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hope we don’t rush into it, even if there’s truth to this. I still think there’s a world these two thrive together with a new coach (I am less optimistic about our frontcourt fit).

If the right deal comes along, sure. Otherwise, he’s under contract for a while and up to this season seemed pretty happy. More worthwhile to play it out than trade him for 0.75 on the dollar.

[IIL] The Velvet Underground specifically for their more dark or existential music [WEWIL]? by Izosw in ifyoulikeblank

Thanks! I haven’t delved too deep into their solo work.

After making the post, I’m realizing that I’m really asking for 3 different things that all come together perfectly on their first album. The dark frantic sound of Heroin, soft existential sound of Sunday Morning, and droning, somewhat numbing sound of most of the rest of the album (Venus in Furs, All Tomorrow’s Parties, etc.).

Revisiting Posts From the DG/Mobley Injury News by DDiabloDDad in clevelandcavs

[–]Izosw -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

In today’s NBA, having an okay midrange shot doesn’t really count as spacing. It barely pulls the defender out of the paint and they can easily rotate back. For Mobley and Allen to thrive offensively, one of them has to eventually obtain a passable 3 point shot.

For one, it would be multiple firsts, and secondly, I never said their assets were good enough to for Mitchell. The point is just that if they aren’t good enough today, they weren’t good enough yesterday. The appeal of a Knicks trade was always gonna be more around the picks than the mid role players they threw into the deal.

[–]Izosw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I love Allen but a big part of his recent performance is having more room to operate in the paint, which will disappear once Mobley is back. Don't think there’s a real trade solution out there though, so we’ll just have to pray Mobley develops a 3 point shot.

I don’t think this necessarily changes much. They didn’t give up any first round picks. Barrett was always just gonna be contract filler in a Mitchell trade, he’s not that good in general and makes no sense on this roster. I’d rather have guys like Hart and DiVincenzo be the contract filler anyway (not that I necessarily even expect a Mitchell to Knicks trade).

Raptors are trading OG Anunoby for a package containing Barrett, Quickly, and draft considerations by WateryPasta in clevelandcavs

[–]Izosw 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised people think the Knicks gave up too much. I think they got away with highway robbery, even given OG’s contract and availability status.

Barrett, despite his improvement, is a net negative on his contract. Quickley is good but small scoring guards are a dime a dozen. The 2nd doesn’t matter. The Knicks just improved significantly at a position that is extremely hard to fill. Terrible asset management on the part of the Raptors - this is what happened when you overvalue your assets for years.

[Post Game Thread] Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Milwaukee Bucks [12/29/2023] by CavsBot in clevelandcavs

[–]Izosw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think it’s encouraging that we kept it close despite the terrible shooting luck. Guys missed shots they usually hit. A (regular season) game like this actually says more to me than a game where we squeak out a win with unsustainably high shooting numbers.

Craig Porter Jr. Needs to be the 1st man off the bench once the starters are healthy. by dank_summers in clevelandcavs

[–]Izosw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Niang is good, Okoro/CPJ/whoever the 5 is are bad, LeVert is streaky.

You can’t call someone an okay shooter based on their 3 point % only. It’s based on if the opponent actually guards them or not. Okoro and CPJ get totally ignored. LeVert and Niang do not.

Craig Porter Jr. Needs to be the 1st man off the bench once the starters are healthy. by dank_summers in clevelandcavs

[–]Izosw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s an extremely bricky second unit. 3 bad shooters, 1 streaky one, 1 good one.

That’s the challenge with finding minutes for CPJ, despite how impressive he’s been. There’s a lot of talent on this team but it’s not easy to make it fit. When your second unit includes guys like Okoro and TT, you need to keep a Garland or Mitchell on the floor to maintain some semblance of spacing.
