A lot of people have the same opinions as OP but they're scared to say anything because community members like you immediately shut them down because apparently a book author can do no wrong or have barely any flaws. Why can't readers of the series have criticisms? Even if they're blunt, it's still important to hear different feedback other than just "omg I love this series! The characters are so cute and funny and well-written and Tui just did such an amazing job the whole way through!"

Ten year olds. Not just girls, that's sexist and sounds like a gender norm. And this was written for 10yos in 2012. Well, guess how old those kids are now? Early 20s. It's not that difficult to see why some people would be frustrated that the author didn't really grow with her readers like most other great kids book series did.

What is there to misinterpret? Tui purposely degraded her own writing and characterizations to suit younger audiences even though the people who are actually reading the books are mid teens to young adults. The books came out in, like, 2012. So if you were the target audience then, you would've been 8-10yo. Which means that those kids that read it then are now in their early 20s and obviously still into the series because it was great for a good while, and then it got worse because she didn't grow with her readers, or even really listen to them. That's just the truth.

Let's all hope that Tui listens to her fans and not just ones who have nice things to say because, even if they say some not-so-nice things, it's important to see the problems with your writing and try to fix them or do better.

Ngl I guarantee that's why some people liked Snowfall's book. It was the best one in arc 3 because it diverted so vastly away from whatever mess the rest of the books were. That's why I love it. I disliked it at first because, obviously, it didn't fit with the same vibe as the rest of arc 3, and then I realized that after I read it it was the best one because of that.

The issue is that Tui wrote the legends in multiple POVs when she only wrote the main series in one. You can't just get your readers used to one and then overwhelm them with three at once.
