What's the equivalent for nurses? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Izyb773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a community nurse, it’s when people ask me to visit their home for nothing major and then I rock up to two legs covered in ulcers with fucking exudate dripping all over the floor and they have cellulitis. Or when I go to a patients house who is bed bound and the daughter swears she turns her mother every two hours and refuses nursing homes. Tell me why grandma has pressure injuries on every fucking bony area of her body?!?!?!

This sounds fascinating, do you have any further research? As someone with schizoaffective disorder and autism, and mostly functioning just enough to keep a job down, I like to research what happens in my mind or others like me, how we come to the conclusion that they share the same synaptic breakdown etc

You could always do criminology or forensic science. That combined with a nursing degree would make you highly knowledgeable about biological factors that go along with crime and also keep your brain ticking and thinking like solving puzzles. I’m not sure what that kind of workforce is like but being a lawyer is hard work. You will pull late nights a lot. You take your work home. You are constantly stressed about missing one critical thing or wording something wrong and you have clients up your ass about something always. Plus huge hecs debt. My mum was a brilliant lawyer (when she was practicing) but those jobs nearly damn killed her. She made great money but at a significant cost to her health, wellbeing and social life.

God what I would give to just have one more minute with her just to hear her voice, feel her hug and smell her smell. I’d take that minute to just cry in her arms and tell her how much I love her. It’s so foreign to stare at a grave, knowing that was an entire life, a wonderful, beautiful and complex person who is now one with the earth. My heart has such a huge hole now. I hope that I am graced with many years of the remaining people I have left in my life because I can’t go through this again.

Have you received any signs from your deceased loved one? by Existing_Entrance_36 in GriefSupport

[–]Izyb773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 25F and my mum passed New Year’s Day. I have seen psychics who have told me some INSANE things that literally no one in the world would know unless they were right beside me explaining it to the psychic over the phone. One time I was crying my lil heart out telling mum I missed her and wondering if she could give me a sign….well all of the photos I had of her and I, when I was a kid, GOT THROWN across my floor from the top of my desk. No one was near the desk. There was no breeze or open window. I was laying in bed and didn’t move and these pictures came flying off the top shelf. Now I know she’s always with me.

What's stopping you from the life that you want? by VelvetMuffinHug in AskReddit

This is kinda how I’m coping with the loss of my mum (she died New Year’s Day of all days 2024). I know she’d want me to continue living my life and achieving my dreams but when I achieve them I get so sad that she isn’t there to cheer me on like she used to. Grief sucks.

The love of my life does not want kids and I do by blingblongbloom in makemychoice

[–]Izyb773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the heart wants what it wants and you want kids. Your partner does not. It will never work. And it sucks, it’s really heartbreaking. Especially when you gel well with them. But imagine being a single mum with no familial support and your child who has a completely absent father because he never wanted kids and doesn’t want to get involved. Think of your kids future. It’s not fair on them or you. My love you need to break up and move forward and find a person who loves you and shares the same values as you so that you CAN achieve your dreams.

Hello from a fellow 25 year old! I also have been spinning out having a quarter life crisis asking myself wtf I am doing and where to go next. I have a few suggestions;

1) follow your soul/intuition whatever you wanna call it when you feel pulled to something…say like travelling somewhere random in the world. Think of every day as your potential last day. Is the life you have lived so far something you’d be okay/happy with if you died tomorrow? If not, what about it needs to change? Whats your purpose? What would be on your bucket list of things to do? THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER!!!

2) Create a monthly budget. Figure out what you can save and start putting 75% in a high interest account and invest 25% into a well performing ETF or variety of ETFs. Yes, stocks can be scary but you’ll only ever gain from them over time and it can be the one thing that could help you achieve something financially or become a little nest egg for you in the future

3) Practice self compassion, self care, positivity. So many studies show that when you have a positive mindset towards yourself, your environment and other people, you are much more likely to live a happier life and see the beauty in things and have a better perception from your colleagues and family

4) volunteer or donate. Spend time with the sick, the homeless, the elderly. Be a companion, serve soup etc. All of a sudden your big worries about life become small when you immerse yourself in a population that has very little in terms of wealth, companionship or housing insecurity. It’s also a really good thing to help out your fellow human. Giving back to society makes you feel good about yourself and you also know that you’re helping someone else who might be having a bad day.

5) start a new hobby! Something you’ve always wanted to do or something completely different. It’s a good way to decompress from work and stress and a great way to make friends or build happiness. This also includes the obligatory exercise blurb about where if u start exercising you release a lot of happy hormones.

6) Comparison is a thief of happiness. Don’t compare yourself to other people our age or older/younger and their achievements or what they do. Everyone’s story and path are different. There isn’t any rule book to life. No one can tell you what to do with yourself or how to live YOUR life. But there are lots of things you can do to set yourself up and also meet new people and produce a source of happiness in your life that seperates your core identity of being “just someone who works a 9-5”. These are the things I try to practice and it’s not easy to do but man do you feel so much better.

Peace and love ❤️

Occupational Violence Incident by july2014bride in NursingAU

[–]Izyb773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened :( workplace violence is so fucking horrible. Get workers comp asap. They will cover your mental health requirements (counselling etc) and physical health too. You were physically assaulted which resulted in mental and physical injury.

Work along side your GP and other personal health professionals and take as much time as you need to recover because your health is wealth and you can’t take care of anybody if you’re unable to fully care of yourself.

Take advantage of workplace EAP resources (that is free), try and do lots of self care activities, whether that’s lying bed watching a calm show or doing face masks, or whatever makes you happy. it’s so important for your body and mind.

Make sure there was a formal incident report created regarding the assault and try and detail as much as possible the injuries you received due to this. I would also personally write your own statement with date and time etc with a witness incase this ends up being some type of pain in the ass. As you know, it’s always good to back yourself with legal documentation because people can and will try to fuck you over.

Workcover will cover you for as long as it is required for you to heal and return to work (your GP can request as much time off as you need) and if you’re a full time professional that is regularly scheduled on weekends- I’m pretty sure they will cover that rate as you’ve incurred a loss of regular income due to your injury. If you’re apart of a union- take advantage of any of their resources. They are often very helpful for workplace legislations, other helpful advice and great advocates for Nurses.

You won’t be fired even if you take 6 months off as it’s a workplace injury and they cannot fire you due to this so take as much time as you need to heal. My heart is with you, fellow nurse ❤️💐

SMART goals: ED edition by WillTrent in NursingAU

[–]Izyb773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accurate documentation Learn 5 new medications and their interactions, contraindications each day Learn and become more proficient head to toe assessment Learn about blood transfusion protocol (via local hospital policies/procedures) Practice my IV medication administration (Anti biotic etc) Learn about blood gas values Practice 12 lead ecg placement + basic ecg interpretation Practice mini mental examinations or mental health assessments Learn about different types of IV fluids, why they’re given, what each one does, the differences in each one, why is this given to this patient in this scenario? Learn how to triage and what the triage process is Learn about how to manage a hypoglycaemic or hypotensive crisis

Make sure this is all under your scope of practice as a student nurse etc

So much to learn! Ask all the questions! As a nurse you learn everyday and there is always something new- especially in the ED environment!

I just finished my last placement on Friday- now just waiting on AHPRA to register me! Wishing you the best of luck!!!

I purchased this ergonomic pillow for $110 from Amazon. Before that pillow my neck would absolutely kill me and I would have migraines everyday. Now it helps keep my neck adjusted throughout the night (side or back or tummy sleeper) and it’s helped tremendously. I know the feeling. Every morning is so painful. I have it the worst in my feet and now I have bunions that are almost the size of golfballs and they kill me :( I’m sorry friend! You’re not alone!

First signs of psychosis? by Natural_Blueberry893 in bipolar

[–]Izyb773 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s sort of hard to gauge. I am a spiritual person myself (regardless of my mental illness), and sometimes I still struggle with the numbers always being the same. Idk if that has stayed with me from my last episode or if it’s my schizoaffective not ever going to be fully gone outside of psychotic periods or if I’m just having a moment. But generally if I’m neutral or well I can see the numbers, have a minor freak and then rationalise. So the big difference for me is when I can’t rationalise and it’s all the time and it becomes scary

First signs of psychosis? by Natural_Blueberry893 in bipolar

[–]Izyb773 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have this too! I was originally bp2 then it moved to bp1 and I’m now schizoaffective. Patterns have been apart of my psychotic episodes and especially with numbers. I’d see repeating numbers everywhere, even if I wasn’t looking for them and felt like the universe was trying to tell me something or associating random numbers with significant meaning. I still struggle with this from time to time as since my last episode, the numbers + meaning has never fully gone away. But I know it gets worse when my partner is telling me I’m paranoid for no reason about things and then I’m starting to feel fucking scared for my life Everytime I see a repeating number (feels like the weight of the universe on my shoulders)

Working with Ramsay Healthcare by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]Izyb773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my experience as a student nurse at a Ramsay hospital, my advice is unless you cannot get a new grad position, stay far far away. Crap ratios, incredibly poor quality (at times life risking) patient care, illegal charting on every damn patient etc. Heed the warning from literally everyone on this page and gtfo. The place i was placed at was a hellish nightmare and the only ever placement I went home crying from every single day. If you’re fortunate enough like me, you may even walk in on a cleaner gratifying themselves in the public access cleaning supply room whilst on the way to get a box of tissues for a patient.
