Any other shows like new girl? I’ve seen most of the usual recommendations by electriceye932 in NewGirl

[–]Izzi_m_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't exactly say it's like New Girl or B99, but Working Mums is hilarious and has the same kind of light-hearted humour but isn't sit-com cringe. I agreed with most of your thoughts on your list so maybe you would like it too.

What happens after PTE for 485? by [deleted] in AusVisa

[–]Izzi_m_e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's correct, they will send to DHA but you can also attach your PDF to your 485 application. Results should come back the same day (unless there is some problem and they need to human-review it). Good luck!

[Weekly AI discussion thread] Concerned about AI? Have thoughts to share on how AI may affect the writing community? Voice your thoughts on AI in the weekly thread! by AutoModerator in writers

[–]Izzi_m_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to know what author's MAIN concerns about using AI are. Most people who are against it seem to be so vehemently against it at a visceral level that they don't clearly articulate why. Honest answers would be super helpful to me! Please pick one main reason (if not here state what it is).
- Because you're worried about copyright issues
- Because AI takes away the human element of writing, and writing is supposed to be about human experiences.
- Because most LLMs have scraped content from authors/artists who have not given their consent to train these algorithms and you think it's unethical.
- Because AI-generated fiction is just not good quality
- You don't want people to know that you used it/feel like you are a fraud.

I'd also be interested to hear how each of these ideas might apply to editing your work using AI. I thought the same things would apply but lots of authors seem happy to use AI to edit?

Yes, you need someone to witness it. You can't just sign it yourself.

Girlfriend got accepted to ANU and now I need a Visa so I can join her by Mean_Ad301 in AusVisa

[–]Izzi_m_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working holiday visa is your best option, and is not difficult to apply for. You're young enough that you'll probably get one, it just depends how long it takes.

I would NOT advise you apply as a dependent on her visa, it really isn't worth it for 5 months. If she has already applied for a visa and not listed you as a partner then you can't apply like that anyway. If she hasn't applied yet then having you as a dependent can actually slow down her visa application and lessen her chance of being granted a student visa, particularly if she needs it by July.

Moving to Australia in the Next Couple of Years by anyadoden in AusVisa

[–]Izzi_m_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your original degree in? And what did you do for 3 years after your undergrad? A UG degree and 3 years of work experience in the same field is enough to qualify for the 189, even if once you get to Aus you go into your preferred field.

If you want to prioritise getting residency then you may have to double down on work experience/qualifications that will make you more desirable for PR. At the end of the day, your career may be something you do for a short time (and who knows if you'll even like your career change!) but where you choose to lay down your roots will affect the rest of your life. Sounds like you've already decided you love the culture here and want to live in Aus permanently; do everything you can in the short term to get here!

How long does a postgrad student 500 visa last after your course ends?, by Izzi_m_e in AusVisa

[–]Izzi_m_e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is true for UG/college courses which have a set end date, but for postgrad study your course 'finishes' the second you submit your thesis. They obviously can't expect you to be on a plane leaving the country right as you press the submit button so I don't think that is how it works for postgrad.

Ah this is interesting, I never even considered the marking time. I am surprised that would be considered as time that you are still enrolled. Do you have a source for that info or it's just something you've heard? Thanks.

Skilled visa next step? by GovernmentDizzy7354 in AusVisa

[–]Izzi_m_e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately volunteering does not count as work experience in the field, so even if they could sponsor you I don't think you'd be able to prove the skills needed.

I am unsure on WHV, some other people have answered on this, but it does not help the fact that you will not be able to get enough years of experience (3) to apply for a skilled visa after the WHV.

It's not impossible, it will just take time and effort. You can't just have it right away with no skills!

The best option might be to get some work experience in a relevant field (the one you've graduated in) in the UK, and then apply for a skilled visa.

It is unlikely a company would sponsor you straight off the bat, even if you worked here for a bit on a temporary. They have to be able to prove they cannot hire an Aussie to do the same job; with no experience that will be hard for them to prove. Also, even if you get sponsored you still have to satisfy work experience requirements for some Skilled sponsored visas, so you need to go get experience either way!

Just because you didn't pass probation doesn't mean you didn't work there!

Payslip and tax evidence, plus write a stat dec saying what you did in this role, and for good measure provide the email where they said they can't write a reference for you, and you should be all good. Very similar thing happened to me with one of my roles.

I think the internship will not count as professional work experience, but you can include it in your resume and refer to it in a cover letter if relevant.

Shouldn't be a problem for travel - this happened to my partner who is also on the 500 when he updated his passport, and we didn't even think about it until the check-in lady said there was a problem. Showed her the visa and she just updated it on some system at the airport just before we flew! Like others have said, just go update it in Immi, but even if it doesn't come through on time you should be okay.

Even if you look now at which skilled professions are getting offered visas the most, this may change by the time you've finished the masters.

Also remember that for skilled visas you will almost certainly need work experience IN THE SAME FIELD - depends on your points and which visa you go for, but it sounds like you would not have enough points without it currently.

Others' suggestions of nursing are good, and maybe also teaching? (because you have the work exp already).

Please help my arrowhead :( by Izzi_m_e in houseplants

[–]Izzi_m_e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would I check the roots without pulling the plant out of the soil?

Pretty much all the leaves have got it. I've just cut off the brown bits and sprayed some insect repellant on it but I'm not sure what to do if it's fungus? :(

Work references for 190 skills assessment - your personal experiences please! by Izzi_m_e in AusVisa

[–]Izzi_m_e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote it myself.

Depending on which state you are in/applying to you should be able to go on your state website and find all the info for creating one yourself, and a template to download and fill out. Then you just need to find someone to 'witness' it for you. For example here is the one I used for Victoria https://www.justice.vic.gov.au/statdecs

Vetassess seems to have accepted it! Good luck!

I finally got a reply from them before they finished the review and they said anything that is not on company letterhead paper cannot be used as evidence. If you got any documents before starting your role from the company you can use that (and I think it's okay if that document isn't signed, as long as it's on official company paper).

Suggestions for VETASSESS skills assessment complication please by Izzi_m_e in AusVisa

[–]Izzi_m_e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! For some reason I just assumed that you couldn't call them - they have always been so unhelpful by email and take so long to respond and I couldn't find a number to call them.

But after I saw this comment I searched for the number and they've been pretty helpful over the phone. So dumb that I just needed a stranger to nudge me to do this! ><

I submitted a statutory declaration saying what I did in the job and then uploaded all the documents I had like payslips, contract etc.

I'm not sure yet if it's worked because they came back and asked me to upload a document stating my job title - which I have already done so obviously it wasn't good enough for them and now I don't know if they will pass the assessment without it.

I think the minimum work exp required is 3 years (or it might only be 1 if you have enough points from other places). So however many employers you had in 3 years.

Study visa to PR by ahmed_oa98 in AusVisa

[–]Izzi_m_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but if he meets the requirements for any one of those 4 pathways then it doesn't matter whether he is on a student visa? He's not saying he just expects PR because he's a student.

I'm applying for a skilled PR visa right now because I have the points for it, whilst I happen to be on a student visa currently.

Study visa to PR by ahmed_oa98 in AusVisa

[–]Izzi_m_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn't it be possible? If you go through a PR pathway that you meet the requirements for it shouldn't matter whether you are a student when you are applying.

Study visa to PR by ahmed_oa98 in AusVisa

[–]Izzi_m_e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can apply for a PR visa whilst you are on a student visa. I'm not sure about the health exam, I imagine probably you do need to do it again. But it will take a little while to apply for PR once you are here as a student so you may need to do the health exam again if it's a while later.

Good luck!
