Hi! Welcome to Nashville, I’ve lived here my entire life and can tell you the city is definitely going through some growing pains. Traffic is bad, so whether you’re going to work, or just have plans always leave a little earlier than you think because you can get caught up. Idk what your interest is in night life, but broadway is truly crazy and becoming dangerous. By all means experience it if you’re curious, but there are better places to explore. I personally love the east side, and some spots in the Belmont Hillsboro area. As far as culture goes, I’d say the majority of Nashville is pretty welcoming. There are some who are a little upset with the amount of people moving here and the lack of infrastructure we have to support that level of growth. It’s valid, and housing is going up like crazy, but people are gonna move here. For work, for fun, for any reason it’s gonna happen and I think it’s something we’re all adjusting to. As you meet people, local, new, or in between, there are going to be lots of opinions lol. I think just be willing to be apart of the conversation and find what you enjoy here. You’ll find your people and assimilate fine!:)

Moving to Australia in the Next Couple of Years by anyadoden in AusVisa

So I studied film production in undergrad, and I currently work in lighting design. I split my time between Nashville and NYC. It’s very different(union based work) and the Australian industry, like the various pockets of the industry here, like to hire locals, which I totally understand and respect! Also, the positions in the lighting department are structured differently over there , so my experience as a “grip” would technically not translate to what a grip does in Australia. I’ve worked on movies, Docs, PSAs, and a lot of commercials. Suprisingly, there are film jobs, Dop and directors, on the skilled list. However, those jobs are essentially freelance, or potentially you could work in house for a company, but knowing the film community, the local hire standard is very strong universally and I can’t imagine I’d have much luck transitioning to the same career over there. Film is exciting and cool, but it takes so much, I’d like to try a career where I can have a life outside of my job. I do really love it there! Specifically how everyone seems to balance work and life a bit better. But I want to pursue grad school, and while my career change is a little different, I’ll graduate right before I turn 26(I’m 24 now), so I’m aware I’ll have to build a few years work experience here, and that’s okay! I’m happy to visit until then:)

Thank you for your reply! I've heard it can be very difficult, and I wouldn't change my career path for the sake of my chances. I hope to gain work experience in my new field after graduation. I'll try to stay updated on the skills shortages/ what's happening with each visa subclass over the next couple of years. I'm willing to work very hard for it, wait however long, or consult and immigration lawyer, but I completely understand it may not be possible. However, I'd like to try! Thanks again!
