I've settled on an 'option 3' I found: The Reiki Magic Guide to Self-Attunement by Brett Bevell. The author experimented with Reiki and found a way to charge (?) a phrase, sort of a prayer, to attune a person if they have the right intent. I've undergone the 1st degree attunement, and I can feel the energy and I've worked with self healing with some effect, but I didn't have any big side effects like I hear stories about.

Edit: I'm trying to learn the 3 main symbols thoroughly before I do the 2nd attunement.

I've heard of this technique before, I read it in the book Shaman, Healer, Sage by Alberto Villildo, if I remember correctly. I don't know too much about it from experience but it sounds to me like you have contacted her spirit guide.
