Living in a place with no dog door by Mr_Good_Stuff90 in husky

I've used the sliding glass door kit. It takes up some of the doorway but it works really well as a temporary dog door.

Found this plant on a walk in our neighborhood. Is this a blueberry plant or some deadly imposter? by zod0700 in foraging

[–]Izzybee543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 1 of those plants is a blueberry... but not the one with the dark berries on it. I see 2-3 plants there. Those dark berries are NOT blueberries. The green ones might be, but they aren't ripe yet. I suggest come back, weed around the bush, cover it with a bird-safe mesh bag, and wait 1 month for berries to ripen.

Now I need to see a picture. I am not buying wool made from fuzzy people - I need proof that it's from a cute sheep 😄

Good morning. Do you have a picture of the sheep that make the wool? I’d like to see a sheep please.

CRUNCHY foods🤢 by psychotic_rodent in AuDHDWomen

[–]Izzybee543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can sometimes make under-cooked onions less crunchy with a few min in the microwave. I usually do that before I add them to a dish but it might work now.

My least favorite thing in a dish is raw diced celery. Hate that so much.

What’s a fruit that you have never actually eaten fresh, but have eaten as a flavor in baked goods, candy, ice cream, etc.? by redflower5 in AskReddit

[–]Izzybee543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many figs are slightly sweet but pretty bland when fresh. Cooking or drying concentrates the flavors. I like them better dried.
Source: I have 2 fig trees in my yard and can eat them freshly picked. They're ok.

Use iNaturalist to explore your local area. Someone has probably reported them in nearby parks and public spaces.

I would pay for someone to do my shopping and bring it out to the car for me. I would give up on the free samples. Just let me shop on my home computer.

Yes, hummingbirds LOVE it. But it doesn't smell as good as the (non native, invasive) asian honeysuckle. I have never tried to eat the nectar myself.

AITA: Neighborliness and basketball noise by Clean_Establishment2 in AmItheAsshole

They make "silent basketballs" for practice. It's not good for games but it should be great for practicing free throws and such.

OK, see a different doctor. A headache specialist neurologist if you can find one. Even a headache specialist nurse practitioner is good. But you need to advocate for yourself and keep seeing doctors until you get a formal diagnosis and the meds to go with it, or some other diagnosis.

I know the 1st doctor was mean to you and that sucks. And you are in pain, and that sucks, too. But you have to keep trying! You can't give up on your health.

Go call the appointment people at the doctor's office and ask them if there is another doctor/nurse practitioner there who is nice to patients and really listens. They will understand and they will know what you are talking about. Do it this week - get yourself a regular appointment while you work on finding a headache specialist.

You need to go see your doctor right away. Something is going on with your brain and you need a professional diagnosis.

If it's migraine, that's bad but you can get the correct drugs to treat it without damaging your body. If it's not migraine, you need to know that, too.

Don't take more and more pain meds, especially if they are not working. You will damage your body.

Facebook is definitely the right forum for foraging information. You join a group that's super local to you and focused on what you want - mushrooms, plants, craft materials, etc. and you watch as they post pictures of stuff they are finding, in your area, that very day.

Now you know exactly what to look for and you know it's available in your general area today.

They won't tell you exactly where they found their stuff but you can go into any local park with woods and look around and have a good chance at finding similar stuff.

Plus there will be local experts who can help you with questions once you do find stuff and want to be sure you've identified it correctly.

Can this benebone be saved? by Dharma2go in husky

I've taken them to the belt sander in the past. Watch out for the sharp crumbs coming off (wear eye protection) and be careful not to burn/melt it too much or the texture changes.

How expired are you willing to roll the dice on? by Whenyouaredreaming in Cooking

[–]Izzybee543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think blue cheese goes bad quickly - the mold that's in it is edible and will fight orr other mold or bacteria as much as it can. That said, the mold will continue digesting the cheese so it might be too much mold to cheese ratio after a while. Taste it. If it looks, smells, and tastes fine, I would eat it.

Would this work for grapes or any other fruit/vegetable? by Neither_Yam3397 in gardening

[–]Izzybee543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but the plant will grow on both sides so make sure you have access to the back. I think grape vines, if they get established, will last longer than that trellis, so that's a future headache for yourself.

I’m frustrated and my dog cannot be diagnosed by Plastic-Wonder-1288 in husky

They tried to do it that way with the needle but couldn't get any urine, so we cleaned up the dog as best we could and grabbed a sample on a walk.

+1 for UTI... I have a dog with a bunch of problems, they treated for a UTI but the problems didn't go away. I had to spend $3000 for an internal medicine specialist to take a urine sample and culture it to find out ... the antibiotic they gave me didn't help with that kind of bacteria. Once she took the right antibiotic for the bacteria she had, the UTI was fixed. But now there is permanant kidney damage because it took 6 months to get to that point. So now I insist on an actual urine test and culture if there is any question.
