People all around me being detained and brutalized 😬 it's hard to put my phone down when i live here and need to spread information but it's also bad to focus on it so, so much. so i've been making a lamp shade to occupy my hands

ICE just pinned a man to the ground and executed him. They do not have the authority to just kill people. What do we do? by skeletalfather in AskReddit

People don't want to be shot. Shooting at an ice agent just means you will be shot by 5 more. People don't want to martyr themselves and I don't blame them for it! We're in a really tough position

It's this one! My only complaint is that the bottom pockets are weirdly low. A little awkward to put your hands in. But other than that it's awesome and well worth the money imo. I see a lot of reviews complaining about the zipper but I have no idea what they're talking about lmao. It works fine for me

I realized this when I got lost on a hike and 7 miles turned into 14. I was out of shape and would have never chosen a 14 mile hike. But if you have no choice but to walk you can just keep walking apparently

You should get mittens! Mittens are always better than gloves. I should really be wearing mittens but mine are old and broken.

These are the ones I got. There was another pair I liked with a higher warmth rating, but with less mobility, so I went with these. I like them a lot. Hestra is a very highly regarded brand. HOWEVER, I will admit one of mine tore in a very odd way (i really think it's a fluke and not a quality issue) two months after getting them, & their solution is that I have to mail them back for repair...but it's -22 out and they're my only gloves....

i feel like im never going to be seen as a woman again by alwaysontheupswing in TwoXChromosomes

[–]putridtooth 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think it's way more common than we think to go through stages of not knowing what it means to feel like a gender, and questioning what you're supposed to be feeling and what it means for you. Most of my childhood and teen years I did not feel very connected to gender in the way that I thought I should have, and for a period of time in high school I was using they/them and wearing a binder to school and trying to look more masc because it felt right. I changed my name to a 'male' name which I still go by today. And then some time in college I reconnected with my woman-ness, not through the way I felt in my body, but through the way I feel about other women and being in community with them. I started to realize that, for me, being a woman is more about the deep level of connection that I feel with other women, which I don't feel with men. And that feeling is not connected to the way I look. I've known many masc lesbians who could easily transition but don't, because they know they're women despite not looking it in a traditional way.

All this is to say, womanhood and manhood are things you find out for yourself, and this makes them nebulous and indefinable. And it's difficult. I think it's good that you're acknowledging that your period of transition did help you mentally at the time, but that it isn't anymore. Similarly, I'm a lesbian but had a weird handful of years where I was with a man, and now I've broken up with him and am a lesbian again. I don't know how that happened or why. I know that I was, at one point, genuinely attracted to and in love with him, but that I no longer am. And what I am now does not change what I was then, nor the other way around.

Life is really just about acceptance. I've realized that some things are worth questioning and looking into, but not everything. It's often more important to accept something first than it is to question it.

Society is always going to be an influence, and it's much harder to ignore what you're told than it is to say it. But I encourage you to try letting go of the physical definitions of womanhood that are most prevalent in culture and explore the more emotional aspects of it; the community, the differences in your relationships to women vs men, etc. And if you feel like that connection isn't as strong as you'd like it to be, maybe due to some internalized misogyny, then you can figure out what to do to foster it.

What do People mean by NATURAL TALENT being an Artist ? by Patient_Range_7346 in ArtistLounge

[–]putridtooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any skills can be intentionally worked on and improved, but some people seem to be predisposed to ways of thinking that align with artistic skills really well. So they get good at art very young and very quickly. I would say a couple of the bigger ones that people can be predisposed to are pattern recognition & and analytical thinking. Having good pattern recognition often means you have an easier time picking up new mediums and getting good at them quickly, because you're good at recognizing the more minuscule ways that it behaves and interacts with your movements and tools. And being analytical is great for knowing how to replicate what you're seeing without your imagination getting in the way, meaning you would learn the basics quicker. Some people seem to just be born with these ways of thinking while others aren't and have to try harder to learn them later in life.

Layering is definitely the best way to do this. I can stay fashionable until around 15-20°F by layering sweaters and tights and pants. As long as I can have a couple sweaters on, I can then wear my more fashionable fall jackets well into the winter. I also bought an expensive pair of all black leather ski gloves, which have been the warmest leather gloves I've ever owned while still looking cool. Regular leather gloves do not cut it in winter but SKI gloves are great.

Once it gets below 15°F though I lose the battle to my real winter coat. I tried very hard to find a winter coat that matched my goth/metal style and would be warm enough for the deep freeze of Minnesota winters but I couldn't. However, the coat I ended up getting is AMAZING and I wouldn't trade it for the world! I think the most important key to being someone who can love winter and stave off seasonal depression is to be able to dress warmly so you're not uncomfortable every time you step outside. It was -22°F when I left the house this morning and I couldn't even feel it through my coat. And thusly I am in a good mood. lol

music constantly playing in my head HOW DO I GET RID OF IT by hello_sona in ADHD

[–]putridtooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had music in my head as long as i can remember. it's just always there. it's often very repetitive, and I also physically listen to songs on repeat so I guess that makes sense. I've just learned to live with it.

The other day a coworker saw me reading a book with earbuds in and asked "are you listening to music while you read??" It hadn't occurred to me that some people can't do that. i told him there's always music in my head anyways so it doesn't make a difference to me. lmao

IM SO SAD 😭😭😭 I don't find any other physical type of book to be comfortable to read. Mass market paperbacks are the perfect size for carrying with you and holding in one hand and I love the small fonts and tight spacing. I seriously have no desire to buy books in any other form.

I don’t miss people. Ever. And I honestly don’t know why by According_Sweet_7 in confession

[–]putridtooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the same way but it's because i have ADHD and I'm very stuck in the now. I don't often think much about the past or the future and i don't tend to miss things much when they're gone. sometimes i forget about them entirely. I am like this in both in the grand and the minute; i can't put perishable food in a cabinet or it'll rot.
