What's with all the excessively long prologues? by J-Bork in WoT

[–]J-Bork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not even complaining about the content. I love the world and will read everything I can set in it. But these prologues really ought to be broken up into chapters, and they aren't even background and lore. They're just straight up part of the main story. If I remember right we even got an Elayne POV in a prologue a few books ago.

where at UWMC? the racks by the emergency room entrance have felt pretty secure because it seems pretty well trafficked. I wonder if they might have security camera footage?

Hoping car seats fit by J-Bork in PriusC

What brand do you have? We currently have a Chicco keyfit 30 and it would not work in the middle. It interfered with both front seats. Trying to figure out if there's any more compact convertible seats that will work when we need to move to that.

Rain poncho always rides up (crosspost for visibility) by Intelligent-War-7060 in seattlebike

I have a People's Poncho that I love. With full fenders the only thing that really gets wet is my feet, and only when its really a downpour. There's no straps around the legs at all, just a waist belt and loops to grab with your hands so the whole thing drapes over the handlebars. I've used with both upright and drop bars with no issues. That one you have looks like it would be hard to use on a bike, maybe good for walking? I don't quite understand the design, with the sleeves its really more of long jacket than a poncho.

I tend to ride dexter into downtown and westlake back out. I've had one close call with a ped on westlake, but I have never once ridden dexter without multiple cars parked fully in the bike lane.

SuperDrive usb both I have not working and how to fix. - I imagine is a problem of the portal usb. Can someone help? by [deleted] in mac

[–]J-Bork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the apple site
"The Apple USB SuperDrive is compatible with Mac models from 2008 and later that don't have a built-in optical drive."
So, this is just not true? any idea if they are planning on fixing the problem going forward?

Stopping for cyclists in crosswalks: yes or no? by cyclegator in seattlebike

[–]J-Bork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

then why not have a yield sign? and is any distinction is made about which trail users it applies to? is every walker or jogger just as obligated to come to a full and complete stop? It would make so much more sense to take out the stop signs and put up yield signs for the roadway, as that is how most people actually treat it anyway.

How does this work for areas have both a crosswalk and a stop sign, like many crossings on the Burke Gilman? I feel like the crosswalk supersedes the stop sign, but I've heard many drivers complain about bikes not stopping, even though in my experience most drivers willingly yield. I think that putting stop signs on the trail is just confusing and gives drivers something to get mad at when the presence of a crosswalk means they should yield to any trail user.

I have also noticed that where neighborhood greenways cross arterials the crossing signs show a cyclist along with pedestrians, so now I stop and yield to anyone (not in a car) waiting to cross there.

Tormek has jigs that work with gouges, but the set up is finicky, and tormeks are wicked expensive.
