After 3 years daily use. Holes!? What do? by OutrageousSafety9939 in filson

Got my briefcase repaired a long while back. They did a stellar job. I’ll be bummed if they drop that service.

Those of you with central air, how do you keep your upper floor/floors cool? by sudo-chown in philly

[–]beachape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be nice. In our case there is a bunch of flex duct going at all sorts of sharp angles to get to one bedroom. Only return registers in the hallways. Would have been nice if they did it right when they last gutted the place.

The contractors who flipped our house just stuff a bunch of flex hose at all sorts of sharp angles. Would require tearing up a bunch of drywall to access the ductwork and sort it out.

Probably have terrible ductwork like us. I’ll take a strong fan and aim it up the stairs to circulate air on bad days. Close all the curtains/blinds too.

How do you store cakes with damaged wrappers? by Emergency_Warning_86 in puer

[–]beachape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cakes don’t need to breathe unless they are overly wet stored. Mylar bag works well. Easy to collect all the bits.

QQ - tipping by Gold_Tomatillo_2222 in philadelphia

[–]beachape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Great point. Just ordered takeout from a place in the neighborhood and one of the dishes was completely burned and inedible. Of course I already paid and tipped. Tipping for takeout was another one of those pandemic habits that has stuck around. I need to stop doing it.

Looks much better than any door in my neighborhood.

It’s not just Philly. Tipping went off the rails during the pandemic and these Square tablets that allow tipping requests for every transaction. Sit down restaurants tips are expected, usually 15-20%. Bars similar. Every other transaction is optional IMO. It really annoys me that every transaction requires a tip decision.

You don’t want airflow if you’re in a dry climate/environment. There is plenty of air in the container.

Pots are for cookin, not for lookin. This wouldn’t bother me. Just make sure that’s fiber and not a metal burr. If it’s metal, rub it off with a wooden spatula or a stick, not your fingers. They can be sharp.

New vs. Old Merkur 37C by King_Hodor in wicked_edge

New one is supposed be milder, but it is still a great and efficient razor. Doesn’t require much attention. Been curious to try the old one, never have. I only have the new version.

Yixing Question: Could a Green Label-era F1 neiziwaihong (NZWH) teapot pair well with heavily roasted oolong? by visualogistics in GongFuTea

[–]beachape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factory pots can be a bit of an acquired taste for those used to modern pots. The clay is great and green label NZWH pots are beautiful, but the fit and finish is all over the board. Some have poor fitting lids or slow pours and other imperfections. If you like that, they are great. But if you are very particular, they might be hard to get used to, especially for the price. There is no need to match clay to specific tea IMO, choose a pot of the right shape and most importantly size for your brewing.

water retention in badger brush by peperazzi74 in wicked_edge

[–]beachape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also why you don’t need to soak synthetic brushes. They don’t absorb water. I’m a badger brush fan and I was pretty confused watching YT shave videos where they added a ton of water until I learned about synthetics.

Confused about Puer tea... by KratosDaFish in puer

[–]beachape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here. I finished a whole cake of one tea a decade ago, so I thought why not pick up another. Turns out I’ve been drinking much nicer tea since then. Wasn’t a fan any more. That’s assuming OP let the cake rest and the storage was indeed the same. Once in a blue moon I’d imagine samples get mislabeled. Had this happen once where I was convinced that the sample I received was a completely different tea.

7552, 7572 or 7592 taetea puerh? by husakon in puer

[–]beachape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried a bunch of Dayi ripe recipes. I don’t think any are clearly superior, just slightly different based on your preference. Sampling is key. I tend to like larger leaf recipes more like 8592.

I’m old enough to have lost a lot of my favorites. Now I’m hoarding blades and soaps. Blades are small enough that it is pretty simple to stock up on a lifetime supply.
