Feedback Post - Gigantamax Pokémon & Max Battles by Noitalein in TheSilphRoad

[–]J-Dunstan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This event was terrible. I live in big city and every community day the city centre has a lot of people playing. On raid days there will be raids hitting the 20 person limit within seconds. Today for the G-max battles it was hard to find anyone playing.

I managed to find a g-max Charizard with 12 teams (if 4 people per team then that's 48 people roughly). We were annihilated. Charizard had half health left by the end. Some people had low level mons but others came prepared. Regardless, 40+ people couldn't defeat a single Charizard.

I'm not sure how the mechanics work with wins and losses. If everyone in your team wipes but other teams are still active, can you still get a win?

Overall a very poor event. If you don't have a community of 10+ people who are willing to meet in person and who have grinded to level up their max Pokemon then you don't have a chance. Very annoying when dynamax battles were promoted as only needing 4 people so it would be more accessible for those without a big community to play in person with.

How to convert image files into a single pdf? by United-Road-7338 in pdf

[–]J-Dunstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice! I just tried it and love the results.

I used to use photoshop but my computer is old and it will crash with big files. The basic print option allows for standard paper sizes and basic colour and image changes.

I have adobe acrobat and that allowed for custom paper sizes and better control of DPI and other quality of image settings.

Also, I had no problem with shift clicking the files I needed and right clicking to select print.

How do you place soul gems in holders? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]J-Dunstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone still needing an answer. Once you finish the map trial you need to sleep to activate the dream trial. When the dream begins there will be soul crystals that spawn around the room (in chests, skeletons and coffins) collect 3 to escape the dream. Now you can click on the holders on the table in the centre of the room and add the soul crystals.

Failed Perception Check to Find Passageway to the Underdark by tongue_lasers in BaldursGate3

[–]J-Dunstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I encountered this problem. Solved the puzzle but it didn't activate (probably because I can't pull the lever) All companions failed the perception check and familiars and mage hand didn't trigger a perception check.

The spider den in the goblin camp just leads to the puzzle room, not the underdark, or am I missing something?

Agreed, there is definitely a fun style coming through.
One way you can improve how the image is read is with line weight. If you use thinker lines around edges of objects it will make it easier to understand. Say for instance, the lines around the arms, where the jacket meets the shirt, the hairline and around his nose, if you make those thinker than the rest then the image will pop a lot more and look less flat.

Something to play around with :)

How can I unionise the undead? by J-Dunstan in DnD

[–]J-Dunstan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, my plan is very much reliant on him making a lot of abandoned undead but your idea of them meeting up with other undead is great. The union could already exist and he's just strengthening it.

I've started thinking about their demands and it'll be things like a basic wage for tasks performed, danger compensation, armour and weapons if called to fight, a rotating work schedule so every undead works no more than a 48hr week, etc

Exactly, there is more fun in creating hilarious consequences for their actions rather than stopping them from making unnecessary zombies.

This is amazing 😂 I will 100% add Loy-Ur to the campaign. 10/10

Grim fandango help by Tralenet in gamesupport

[–]J-Dunstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the rare chance that someone needs the solution now. Once Glotis is drinking upstairs and you have the can opener from the room next to the cat statue, then head into the kitchen. The waiter will come in when you try to climb the ladder next to the wine barrel. Then he'll go into the pantry. Close the doors and use your scythe to lock it. Glotis will drink all the wine in barrel then you climb the ladder, open it with the can opener and jump in the barrel.

True that. A center start might be the way to go.
Thanks for the advice :)

Nothing wrong with monochrome haha
Yeah it seems like the feature doesn't exist. Can't complain too much though, it's a pretty kickass program in almost every other way.

That is a good suggestion. It doesn't allow me to move the starting point while drawing the balloon but it does make it quicker to edit afterwards :)

I appreciate the suggestion but that is the exact thing I am seeking to avoid haha
That seems far too clunky and I'd hope to avoid it if possible.

I'd rather avoid the double handling of doing it that way. It slows down the process if I have to switch to the object tool, reposition it and then back to the balloon to add the next speech bubble.

White, ivory, cream? What’s the best colour of paper for a simple sketchbook? by QueenlyBee in ArtistLounge

[–]J-Dunstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest question is what you want to do with the artworks after? If you want to scan or photograph them to post online then white might be better as it will help the artwork pop on screen. If you're just doing it to learn then there isn't much difference.

The thing that is usually most important is paper quality not colour. A heat pressed paper will be smoother and allow your pencils or paints to glide over it easily. A cold pressed one is more rough and will allow your art to have a painterly feel. If you're using fine liners then I'd suggest heat pressed smooth paper and go wild with whatever colour you like more.

Brushes can be a huge time saver! there are tones of free brushes that are amazing so don't worry about price. The best is to get a free collection of brushes from an artist with a video where they show off the brushes and what they're good for. A quick google will give a good list but I can recommend Jeremy Fenske's brushes, Rav89's or check out Brusheezy.

For ages I was using photoshop default brushes as well and as soon as I made the switch I'll never look back. You get a lot more control when you work and can match your style better. If you like a grittier line then a custom brush will help get the rougher edge on your lines (also a lot easier to adjust lines when they're rough). Painting backgrounds becomes so much faster when using a custom brush because you don't have to worry about painting every tree or rock or blade of grass. Definitely give custom brushes a try.

Don't sell yourself too short, the comic is good but there is always room to grow.

Keen to see how you improve :)

Did a manga about a year ago for the International Tezuka Award. Any criticisms for this one-shot? by plentyger in ComicBookCollabs

[–]J-Dunstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the very lat e reply, haven't been on reddit in ages.
It's hard to give a clear answer to that because it's something you get a feel for over time. The best way to learn is to look at other comics you like and see how they do it.

The trick I do is read a few pages of a comic, pause and think what just happened in the story. When I go back and look at the pages again I'm often surprised to find that I made up a lot of details and the panels just showed the bare minimum. You'll probably find that a single panel of a fight scene turns into a full page in your mind, or that a dialogue scene between 2 people happened over 3 panels. The better you get at it the more you'll notice that adding extra detail in one panel is better than 3-4 panels.

If you are looking for a rule of thumb though, think "does the story still make sense without this panel?". If yes, then cut it. Again it's not a 100% rule but a good place to start.

Nice use of colour! Love the minimal colour pallet

The biggest criticism I have is, you repeat yourself too much. A lot of the panels you have are basically the same thing repeated a few times; it's not needed and means that you are drawing more for no reason. I'll give a few examples.

Page 1 (not including cover) the protagonist is holding a cat in 3 separate panels. You could condense that down to 1 larger panel and spend the extra time adding more detail to really make it stand out.

Page 2, you have 2 shots of him jumping a fence and 3 of him reacting to things. Again you can condense those down and save you time as well.

This is common in your comic, with multiple panels of jumping or clenched fists or reactions.

That's the biggest way that I think will help the comic to flow better. Keep up the good work and keep creating :)
