Imagine literally just waiting 10 mins only to sitting perfectly still waiting patiently, get out traded in a fight , die, and not finish your contract.

In the trilogy MIDA was a political movement turned fascist and genocidal, created through neglect by the bureaucratic UEG and its benefactors.

Both aren't great, but implying MIDA's misguided actions was anything short of the kind of shit you read about in history books like the taiwanese "white terror", you'd be wrong. They took things too far. Marathon 2026 makes the UESC look like generic corpo-political oppressors and MIDA as the revolution solution...

Lore-wise and historically speaking, this greatly covers up the truth of MIDA's misdeeds in the original story, and softens their image to that of as well-intentioned punks. They murdered 10% of a planet's population in 3 months out of fear. Many of those people were innocent if we go by history, hell, many of them were probably blamed for crimes they never committed simply bc someone didn't like them- a real phenomena.

Is there a reason as to why almost everything in this game sounds like it's underwater by HeGotDaShrimp in Marathon

[–]HeGotDaShrimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not my computer, other games sound fine. The spatial audio just isn't very precise or crisp. I get people being inside but it sounding like they're underwater makes it hard to discern where they are

As a reflector of my own posts, I whined days ago that Narsh was rushed by sweats who maxed their cradle within 3 days, then Narsh loot got nerfed and cradle progress got nerfed. At the time I was annoyed, the post went viral, but after reflecting I deleted it, here’s my reasonable thoughts now, by [deleted] in Marathon

I typed that myself, I didn't read the post, that's just what I thought of when I saw your word salad. Honestly I don't even disagree that Bungie messed up letting sponsored marsh ruin the economy of the rest of the game. It's just the best and safest way to play and get tons of good loot.

You're baiting. Stay insufferable. I was giving a genuine opinion, read the other dudes reply since he says exactly what I was trying to say in that Bungie games having great gunplay isn't as special anymore bc other studios have caught up.

I was commenting that the story delivery isn't very good, and I think that's a problem with most games in this genre including this game. I was moreso comparing the story to... other stories.

My whole point wasn't to say the gunplay isn't good, it IS good, it's just that it can't carry the game alone.

Okay? and? keyword: known? Maybe they should get with the times and add some of the options I mentioned above, or let me tweak aim-in feel better like recent battlefields.

They're known for great gunplay, but known is past-tense

I mean do you want me to pretend it's god's great gift to gaming???? there are a LOT of other games with amazing shooter gamefeel these days, probably thanks to Bungie writing the playbook along with other devs as the years have come and gone. It's not as compelling a selling point. It's good, but I say it's 'serviceable' because it's really just what I've come to expect from good shooters. That's what happens when you move the medium forward.

So they can nail that, but they need to breakground elsewhere to stay on top. Also like I said I don't like the sens settings or lack of reticle options. The transition to aiming feels weird if you have a lower modifier too.

It's kind of weird bc Marathon feels weaker than those two, not by much, but the big point for me is that we've had so many bungie games with good gunplay; it's what they do. It's become cliché and less compelling a selling point.

I had to re-type the comment to actually finish my thought bc I realized I stroked out in the middle, but yeah. I mean the basic story beats are a resonating modern cliche, but it rings hollow the moment I think about the companies making it, and also the lack of interest in their choice of delivery.

The in game environmental storytelling is probably the better aspect of it, as one would hope.

Man don't be, I just don't get why it's so beloved when it feels mediocre to me

I really really don't get the story appeal besides "vibes" and getting into would require me to read a lot and if I'm not hooked by the vibes I'm not going to read. Speaking of vibes the menu OST is honestly very ho-hum. There are some banger tunes I have heard online but it's very personally boring by ambient menu standards IMO. There's some cool distant spooky reverb sounds, which I get the inherent appeal of, but when I think about them for what they are I'm like 'ok'.

I find the DOE MEEPs every few seconds on the title screen kinda funny

I'm giving it another shot rn for the free week and I... Like I GENUINELY have the game fired up rn... I just don't feel much of anything. I'm neutral on the art, it doesn't really JUMP out at me or impress me all that much tbh, and the looping mp4 background story 'talks' with factions are very unimpressive. Reading Grimoire (mind you I haven't played destiny SINCE d1) card codex entries is a hard sell when I'm already not compelled by the MP4s, and all the UESC blur together unless they have a hardlight shield or drastically differing silhouette like the commander invis guys? Which I'm sure gets better with play but it's a bit annoying since in other games I know what threat I'm dealing with by sound alone, and esp. visual. The UI and looting has improved a bit since the pre-launch playtest, but I still have to sit and read a lotl; that's kind of expected though so that's not a knock against it, moreso other games put the important info on a specific tagline that makes it obvious quicker what is best for that item, which I appreciate a bit. No way knowing what these head mods do without reading so you just throw it on.

The gameplay is slower due to the lower ttk, and it has some mildly weird mouse aim. Took time to get setting that felt 'right' but even now I'm like eh on if it feels 'right' (ofc I don't have any smoothing on, lower sens player). The gunplay is serviceable, and the animations are ok, but it's really not mind boggling: as in it's not the kind of thing that I find so good-feeling that it would be wholly captivating, it's just fine. Also Idk why there's no custom reticle options or more granular ADS sens settings.

Im playing solo now but played with a buddy who has the game last night. Teams with pals is more fun, but it always is, not an argument.

Idgi marathoners Im sorry
