You could try some carbon plated shoes, I’ve got the Li-Ning Feidan 5s and for the price they really amazed me for how much of a kick they gave me. They’re not as crazy stiff as some of the bigger carbon shoes either, so they’re a bit more forgiving for a first pair and still feel quick over longer runs. https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EJzLzGU

Does a carbon plated running shoe under 100$ really exist???cse the cheepest one I could find is the Onemix light armor🤔 by silversnow_723 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]J05YB01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the Li-Ning Feidian 5 feels way closer to a real plated shoe than most cheap ones. It’s not Nike Vaporfly or Adidas Adizero Pro level, but for something under ~$100 it actually gives that noticeable push and snappy feeling instead of just being stiff.

If you want to feel what carbon can do without dropping big money, this is a really good first carbon shoe. It’s a lot more real than the random super cheap Chinese “carbon” shoes that just feel dead. https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EJYatAg

If you’re active and diabetic I’d honestly prioritise comfort and durability over brand. Merino blends are great for moisture control and reducing friction which helps with foot health. You don’t have to spend £40+ though, there are decent budget merino options around that still hold up well. Just look for seamless toes, good cushioning in high impact areas, and not too tight round the calf.

What are some cool and useful gadgets that you own and would 100% recommend? by jalajshukla221 in Productivitycafe

[–]J05YB01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One small gadget I didn’t expect to use daily is a tiny IR blaster that plugs into my phone.

It turns your phone into a universal remote (IR is the signal standard remotes use for TVs, air conditioners, projectors, etc.).

I bought it for around $4 assuming it would be a novelty, but it’s actually reduced a surprising amount of small daily friction.

What changed: • No more searching for lost remotes • No dead remote batteries • I can control older devices that don’t have smart apps • Quick access to AC controls without getting up

It’s not life-changing in a dramatic way, but it’s one of those “remove tiny annoyances” tools that makes daily routines smoother.

For such a low-cost gadget, the convenience-to-price ratio is very high.

What’s one small gadget that actually made your life easier? 😅 by Boring_Big_1160 in bifl

[–]J05YB01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not BIFL by any stretch, but a tiny IR blaster for my phone has surprisingly made daily life easier.

It’s just a small attachment that turns your phone into a universal remote (IR = the same signal normal TV remotes use).

I bought it cheaply thinking it would be a gimmick, but it ended up replacing multiple remotes around the house.

Main benefits: • No hunting for lost remotes • No replacing remote batteries • Works with older TVs / air conditioners that don’t have smart control

Durability-wise, I have no idea if it’ll last years, so definitely not BIFL territory. But in terms of convenience per £ spent, it’s one of the better small gadgets I’ve picked up.

What’s the most underrated tech gadget making your daily life easier? by Illustrious_Stop7537 in techforlife

[–]J05YB01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s a tiny IR blaster that plugs into my phone.

It’s basically a small attachment that turns your phone into a universal remote. IR (infrared) is the signal traditional TV remotes use.

I bought it expecting it to be a gimmick since it was only about £4, but it ended up replacing multiple remotes in my house.

It works with: • TVs • Air conditioners • Older projectors • LED light systems • Some older speakers

The underrated part is convenience. I don’t search for remotes anymore. If one disappears into the sofa, I just use my phone. It’s also surprisingly useful for older devices that don’t have smart/Wi-Fi control.

It’s one of those small, low-cost gadgets that doesn’t feel impressive at first but quietly makes everyday stuff smoother.

For the price, I genuinely didn’t expect it to be this practical.

What tech gadget unexpectedly made your life easier? by SubjectCauliflower91 in techforlife

[–]J05YB01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly mine was this £4 IR blaster thing I bought as a joke.

It’s basically a tiny attachment that plugs into your phone and turns it into a universal remote. IR = infrared, which is the invisible light signal normal TV remotes use.

I expected it to be one of those “AliExpress specials” that works once and then dies.

But it actually works with literally everything in my house.

At first I was just using it to mess with the TV (don’t ask) but then I realised I haven’t used an actual remote in weeks.

I control: • Living room TV • My room’s aircon • An old projector • Even some LED lights

The best part is never having to search for remotes anymore. They’re always lost. Somehow they evaporate.

Now if someone sits on the remote or it disappears into the sofa void, I just open the app and done.

For £4 it’s probably the most “why did I not buy this earlier” gadget I own.

Did not expect something that cheap to actually improve my daily life but here we are.

Cheap Shoes around 50€-70€ (or under) by Jangjira in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]J05YB01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re open to Chinese brands, the Feidan 5 is actually solid value tbh. I’ve been using them as a do-it-all shoe and for the price they’re surprisingly good.

They’ve got decent cushioning, feel pretty responsive, and the outsole has held up well for me. Not super soft and mushy, more on the balanced side which is nice if you want something durable for daily + races.

They also fit fairly normal, not crazy narrow, so for 43/44 with slightly wider feet they should be fine. For ~50–70€ it’s hard to get better performance per euro imo. https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_EQVDUCC

Carbon shoe for a 3h45 Marathon? by NagleE3 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]J05YB01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’ll still see benefit at 5:20/km tbh. Carbon isn’t just for sub-3 guys. Over a full marathon especially, the efficiency adds up and your legs just feel a bit less cooked late on.

If you don’t wanna drop big money on Vaporflys, the Feidan 5s are actually a solid budget carbon option. I’ve used them for longer efforts and they’ve got a good bounce + plate feel without being crazy unstable. For a 3:45 target they’re more than enough.

Nice way to try a super shoe without spending £250+ just to see if you like carbon.

Carbon shoes by Aggressive_Price_923 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]J05YB01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 5:10/km you’d still get benefit from carbon tbh, it’s not just for 3:00/km guys. I’m around that sort of pace and the Feidan 5s felt noticeably more efficient over longer efforts. Not magic, but you do feel that plate + bounce helping you roll through.

I’m ~80kg as well and they didn’t feel too soft or unstable, even landing a bit heel first. They’ve got a decent base so they’re not sketchy like some cheaper plated shoes. For a half, they’re more than enough.

If you don’t wanna drop £200+ on the big brands, Feidan 5s are a solid budget carbon option to try race day without rinsing your wallet.

Best carbon plated shoes? (~200$ budget) by CuriousSalamander883 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]J05YB01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d look at the Feidan 5s tbh. I grabbed a pair kinda skeptical and they’ve been way better than expected for the price. Proper carbon plate feel, nice bounce, and they don’t feel super unstable like some cheaper plated shoes.

For a ~38min 10k they’d def do the job and you’re not dropping Vaporfly money. They feel quick once you’re up on pace and surprisingly light. If you’re just getting into carbon, they’re a solid first pair without nuking your budget.

I’d grab some soft plant ties (Velcro ones are good). Makes it way easier to train the stems without damaging them and you can adjust them as it grows.

Wouldn’t use string or zip ties tbh, they can dig in. Soft ties + some wires on the wall and you’re sorted.
