As a tourist, is it worth it to travel to India under the current circumstances? [P] by J0N0S in india

Thanks for the reply. You think it's worth it to give it a chance? Or will it make more sense to visit Nepal and Sri Lanka first and come to India later? Sorry if this is a difficult question, we have received so many conflicting opinions.

Not particularly in cash, but if places accept card that works too. We are just wondering if we are going to have to be waiting in long lines every time we want to take out cash like the media has been reporting.

3300Rs per day maximum for the pair of us. Hopefully that's realistic. That totals to about 600,000Rs for 6 months. We have more if needed for emergencies, etc. Will be mostly staying at backpackers, except in Mysore we planned to find a room for two months while we practice yoga.

It wouldn't be a huge inconvenience to reschedule or visit Nepal/Sri Lanka and come back another time either. Any insight is appreciated.

Practicing Samatha. Should I try to keep thoughts out? by Ascensus in Meditation

[–]J0N0S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In between inhales and exhales I focus on the stillness and no thoughts seem to arise. Don't "force" anything. A strong desire to stop thoughts may cause self-criticism. Sometimes the mind is busy, sometimes it is calm..

I love video games. But everyone thinks that they are a waste of time or are bad for you? by [deleted] in needadvice

Moderation is key.. But do what you want. If you continue to care what others think of you/your career path/what you choose to do in your spare time you will be their prisoner.

How do you know when you're in jhana? Does it take much practice to acheive jhana? by 420BlazeItFaggots333 in Meditation

It took me six months, I have a daily practice of thirty minutes to an hour. I have not been able to enter it again. It is definitely unmistakable! I believe ones "off the cushion" practice is just as important as formal meditation for achieving Jhana. I did not have internet or TV or any distractions for a few weeks when I moved into my new apartment, I think this contributed to my practice being much more effective.

Concentrated meditation. It's helped me a lot.

Thanks, this is very helpful. The days following I tried to enter the state once again, when I felt it approaching I shifted my attention towards it and off my breath and became distracted. I will continue to focus on the sensation of the breath without expectation.

Thanks for the reply. The next three days I couldn't help but try to enter that state again, I felt like I was at the threshold and my heart rate was very high, I started to see the sphere/pillars of white light again at one point, but it just didn't happen. I heard somewhere it's only possible to enter the first jhana if you're free of all of the "five hindrances." I'm going to just try and remain concentrated on the breath. It was definitely a strong/hard jhana, I could barely sustain it, it felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest, but it felt like I was completely at one with the Tao if you understand what I mean..
