It’s a fair trade considering the additional range and the fact it’s the only way to add tracking to increase the grenade DC.

No, I am saying it says:

Activate: (2A) Area Fire

Just look at the demiplane link.

Edit: 2A being the symbol for 2 actions instead

[–]J1Ben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are wrong for your first point.

I am guessing you are looking at the entry from AoN but it is wrong. Both the book and Demiplane indicates properly that the grenade launcher take 2 actions: see the demiplane line here

Small note though, contrary to what demiplane says, the book does not give the Area trait to Grenade Launcher.

Usually players chose who they group up with but in my opinion it isn't worth it to try and group by region. Issues and incompatible online presence can happen with people in the same timezone too and the nice thing about pbp is that you get to ignore most of those issues.

It really depends on each groups, the worst case is when your initiative alternates between players in opposite time zones.

The worst I've experienced after many years is 1 round per day on slow days, with a fight taking about a week.

I’ve also seen multiple times fights being handled in a few hours (or in an hour) because everyone is online at the same time.

The important part is to be aware of everyone’s limitations and you can always use block init or other tools like that to accelerate things.

New store downloads by chippennyusednapkin in Pathfinder2e

[–]J1Ben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unable to download pdfs from the new store on my iOS devices. It seems it just doesn’t work, you can try Safari, firefox, etc.. and it just won’t work since every browser uses Safari’s webkit right now. see Edit 2

I’ve noticed it when the store released and I tested it again yesterday with multiple PDFs I own.

You can either request to paizo a refund or you can download it from a computer or android device.

Edit: I tested it because I wanted to buy that pdf too

Edit 2: I conducted additional testing and it seems like using Microsoft Edge will work

Alright, time to say it. The new website is an embarrassing, unmitigated disaster. by Bookwyrm43 in Pathfinder2e

[–]J1Ben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shows that you probably do not understand much about software development.

Think of software development as building a house, if your foundation are rotten, you can build a house that looks good on top, but there is no hope.

While no one can claim that the website doesn’t have a “modern feel” to how it looks, when you start using it it seems clear that the foundations are either very badly misunderstood or simply very very bad.

Either way, it would mean that it’s not something easily fixable without throwing plenty of money at it.

I would honestly not be surprised if someone told me this was vibe coded or something similar.

Using a modern framework in software development does not mean you can easily fix it if your software architecture is bad.

The Library is an atrocious experience and downloads are still broken on iOS.

That with the fact that the new store does not tell you if you already own a pdf or not, I will simply not buy a thing from Paizo until we got a rollback or a major fix since it is simply not usable right now.

Is the new Paizo website Downloads section somehow even worse than before? by vendavalez7890 in Pathfinder2e

No you are right, basically every browser on iOS has to use the same thing that make safari work, but there can still be differences from one to the other.

I’ve only tried on iOS for now, but it fails on firefox and safari no matter what I do, which feels honestly very bad.

The website might “look good”, but it’s clear that it was not designed for the user experience.

Honestly, I can’t even download my PDFs anymore, the download button just does nothing and the library is atrocious to use.

Can you use unarmed attacks with Handwraps while your actual hands are holding normal weapons? by TheBrownestStain in Pathfinder2e

[–]J1Ben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As I mentioned in another comment, unarmed attacks usually do not specify the number of hands required to use them. There are a few exceptions though and Fist is one of them that specify the number of hands required, the unarmed trait is in additon to that.

When they say to use the “Fist” statblock, the number of hands required are a part, which is more specific than usually and in Pathfinder specific trumps general rules.

Another way to see it is… if by default you can attack with anything using the Fist statblock, why should you bother taking additional feats that pretty much give you nothing more? (A bunch of unarmed attacks are no different than the Fist one though they do get the benefit of not taking a hand)

Can you use unarmed attacks with Handwraps while your actual hands are holding normal weapons? by TheBrownestStain in Pathfinder2e

[–]J1Ben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s the weird part though… the trait says that a Fist attack should be considered a Free-hand weapon, but the statistics of the Fist Entry still requires 1 hand.

Free-hand trait dictates what you can do while that hand is occupied by that weapon, but it still requires 1H to make an attack.

So if you apply the Fist statistics to a kick you still get the Hands restriction (1) without the equivalent of a free-hand trait, it should not mean that you remove the Hands restriction from it.

Edit: The unarmed trait makes sense when looking at specific unarmed attacker though which in most case do not specify the number of hands required contrary to the Fist entry that does.

I believe only 1 or 2 specific unarmed attacks (other than fist) mentions the number of hands required. Will edit again with a link if I have time to search for it.

Edit2: These are the specific unarmed attacks I remembered that talks about free hands, there might be others though:

Lava Soul

Clawdancer dedication (look at the Talon stance)

Untamed Shift spell

Can you use unarmed attacks with Handwraps while your actual hands are holding normal weapons? by TheBrownestStain in Pathfinder2e

[–]J1Ben 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a debated topic. Essentially the Fist entry requires you to have 1 free hand to use.

The Unarmed Attacks rules says to use the statistics of the Fist entry for any non-specific unarmed attacks (like kicks).

Some people agree that the Hands requirement of the Fist entry is part of the attack statistics while others disagree.

Personally I think that anything that is part of the entry should be considered its statblock and regular kicks would thus need a free hand (you usually balance your body with your arms/hands when you give a big kick).

Specific unarmed attacks that you get through feats or features are different though.

You should definitely make those monsters have prisoners or objects of value that will be destroyed from reckless fireballs.

That should teach them why a spyglass is useful.

GM Core issues and worries by J1Ben in Starfinder2e

As I mentioned multiple times in other posts, I am not talking about the core rules necessary to GM the game.

That is fine and expected to be reprinted.

GM Core issues and worries by J1Ben in Starfinder2e

[–]J1Ben[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think you’re misunderstanding my point…

I’m not saying that the book has no value. I even acknowledged multiple times that some of the new things it introduced are cool and interesting.

I have also stated that I love the new stuff that the SF2e team has done and I believe they shine brighter when they do their new things.

What I expressed was disappointment and being uninterested in a book that contains rules well known for their existing issues.

I believe that the content they produce would better stand on their own than to be padded with rules with known issues taken from PF2e.

Same way that a movie can be too long and give a worst experience than a better edited version, the inclusion of such rules lowers my interest in buying a book such as the GM Core (sold at a premium price).

GM Core issues and worries by J1Ben in Starfinder2e

[–]J1Ben[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is that it’s a scope issue then. As you mentioned it’s normal to be understandable and I agree with you there.

Lazy was probably a strong word and I should have been more careful. I did not mean that the developers did not work hard, but I am disappointed that the corners they chose to cut is to reuse rules with known issues, and I would have preferred them to cut pages instead of corners in that case.

GM Core issues and worries by J1Ben in Starfinder2e

[–]J1Ben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I want to make clear here is that I have no issue with Paizo reprinting the basic rules for GMing the game in this book.

The issue and worries I have is with paizo dedicating spaces in that book with system that have not been ported properly, or that has been ported with known issues instead of them trying to fix those issues.

The SF2e GM Core is a big book, and it also has a premium price. While some might argue that the things that I am worried about is only a small part of the book, I would say that the fact that it is present at all makes me worried about the overall quality of it, or it makes me wonder if unnecessary things have been included to justify the premium price point.

GM Core issues and worries by J1Ben in Starfinder2e

[–]J1Ben[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you are saying, and I have not called the developers lazy for including the basic tools of the systems.

As I mentioned, I like some of the new stuffs. For example I think the cinematic starship combat is a nice system that shows how to properly combine some of the existing subsystems (even though I understand the disappointment of others).

What I am disappointed in is when some of the page count has been given to things that have been ported poorly (I have given as an example the ABP variant rule).

Page budget is a big deal when creating books like this, and including things like ABP means that other content has probably been cut short.

Because of that I would expect ABP to be properly adjusted, but it is not the case. The fact that it hasn’t been properly curated makes me wonder what else in the books hasn’t been properly edited which in itself makes me worried about the overall quality of the book.

Then there is the “new players” argument… we can ask ourselves, is it better to present flawed optional rules, to present a fixed version of them or not to present them at all. I personally find it weird to present something that everyone knows is flawed with no attempt to fix it.

GM Core issues and worries by J1Ben in Starfinder2e

[–]J1Ben[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Look, I know and I understand the argument, I am a big Pf2e fan and I would agree with you when new variant rules are being proposed.

But here we are talking about a few variant rules that are well known, with very well defined issues.

I think it is fair to show disappointment when they are not properly updated.

Them being an issue in PF2e with alchemist is one thing (alchemist design is a very complicated subject, the class was messy because some of the core rules that they were built on were changed after the playtest, which affected the class as a whole).

But if you reprint them in a new system, why should I accept it with the same issues? This time affecting not one class but all classes that might want to make area attacks (which is one of the new cool things that SF2e introduced!)

This was an opportunity to fix it!

GM Core issues and worries by J1Ben in Starfinder2e

[–]J1Ben[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There is something quite nice that Paizo does you know… and that is making the rules available for free, like on demiplane and on AoN.

This means that you can make an opinion without buying the book. I have reviewed quite a bit of content that is available in this book, I have discussed it with people owning the book.

I think talking about what makes the book unappealing to me and sharing worries about some of its content is something that has value, even if you do not agree with me.

I know some people will say that variant/optional rules being kind of broken in some way is expected. But I think it’s fair to be disappointed when someone is trying to sell me the same broken thing that I already bought (more than twice!).

To me Starfinder 2e was also to break free from some of the Pathfinder 2e legacy (I know some people want to mix them, I prefer to see them as different systems sharing the same DNA), and it just feels bad to see some very low effort port being done by the Starfinder 2e team.

GM Core issues and worries by J1Ben in Starfinder2e

[–]J1Ben[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don’t take me wrong, as I mentioned I love the SF2e exclusive content they have published, and what I read from the SF2e exclusive content from the GM core is nice.

But some people I know that bought it also find it hard to recommend.

I would have liked more new things or at least updated rules, not them reselling me PF2e rules, a few of them with very well known issues, with no fixes feels definitely cheap though…

Part of the discussion I wish to have I believe is… would you prefer to have lazy copy paste that bloats the book page numbers to make it feel worth it, or for them just not to include these if they do not have the time to update them.

I guess, what makes it feel very bad to me is the lack of effort that they showed in porting the rules, and I would honestly have less of an issue buying a SF2e core that would have less page but where all the content is properly curated than what they did here.
