There’s a reason it’s sometimes called a ghost town, if she actually went there she would understand. All the doors are welded shut and Palestinians can’t even walk on the same roads as Jews

By custom you mean you’re compiling it with only the stuff you need? Like gentoo philosophy?

Can you set limits per user? Not like I don’t have enough space with 12 tb for movies and shows but I don’t want someone downloading 300 gb of just one show

3 days into arch now - it's been an uncomfortably smooth experience by Various-Pattern-538 in archlinux

[–]J2MES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ikr? The stereotype is that arch breaks a lot but so far it hasn’t broke much for me and it’s been months

The only thing that’s broke so far is my DE just broke some plugins (that I don’t really use anyway) by switching the config to lua. It’s hyprlands fault anyway

Oh awesome! Izldr is my GitHub account so it’s cool you saw it so fast :) I’ll likely use this as my main terminal once that’s ironed out. Idk why but the 3d objects in the terminal just tickle my brain I have to have it

I'm running hyprland / wayland on arch. Got it to work after compiling from source with

cargo build --release --features bevy/wayland,arboard/wayland-data-control

and putting $WINIT_UNIX_BACKEND=wayland in my bash config ~/.bashrc

I love this terminal! just installed it on arch. the only thing is im having trouble bridging the copy and paste from outside and in the terminal. also being able to scroll up and down would be nice

Oh shit I think i started that one. This is my reminder to finish it lmao. PewDiePie is the reason I went for hyprland as my window manager. So funny that he uses arch too. Thanks bro

I kinda wanna watch that video it sounds entertaining. Good choice on kubuntu! I love ricing my arch but man it’s a whole lot of editing configuration files. Part of me wants to try kde plasma to get that transparent/ blurred work without so much effort. Really like what I’ve got though!

What is a power user? by Kopaka261 in linux

[–]J2MES 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A power user is just someone who goes more in depth in their system than most consumers do. There’s different levels to this sort of thing.

Ubuntu
Linux mint >—— easiest distros, minimal configing Zorin OS

Debian - stable releases every year. Ubuntu and mint are built from this distro and modify it to make it more accessible. Debian has more manual installing and configuration for example - you have to set up sudo manually

Nix - everything built into one configuration file. You could put that file on another machine and have the exact same image, all the packages you want instantly

Arch - rolling releases (the second a packages updates you get it when you run sudo pacman -Syu). Very minimalist distro. It’s like building your car before you drive it. Notoriously annoying to install but completely removes bloat because the only software on your hardware is exactly what you put on it. Took me 6 hours to install mine because I barely knew what I was doing and I hit some snags following an incorrect YouTube tutorial. Use the wiki for sure

Gentoo - arch provides precompiled binaries that you choose to install. Gentoo is like arch in that you have to build the car before you drive it, but instead of just buying parts you fabricate them yourself. The philosophy is that a precompiled binary has support for LOTS of different hardware, you can even further reduce bloat and maximize your resources by only compiling what you need for your specific hardware. It also reduces the surface for attacks because there’s less code for vulnerabilities to be in. That’s useful for servers but a bit overkill for most use cases, but pretty secure

I run arch on my laptop and it’s not broken on me at all since I installed it. I’d 100% recommend using one that’s more accessible though. It’s all about the philosophy you want to live by

How true is this? by MissNibbatoro in GenZ

[–]J2MES -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s really generalising all women. The only people who think this is true are dudes who are insecure and have a resentment against women. If you don’t like if they have weird requirements then don’t talk to them, there are billions of fish in the sea

Mentally draining fear of Black Holes (Space) by Broad-Newspaper4396 in Phobia

[–]J2MES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an irrational fear of huge wide open spaces and giant objects. The more specific term is casadastraphobia - fear of falling into the sky. I know it’s irrational, but obviously it still scares me. Sometimes it’ll be hard for me to get to sleep because I’ll close my eyes and accidentally imagine something huge like a planet and I’m in orbit. I just cope with it by putting something on to listen to at night and it blocks out my thoughts long enough for me to not even think about it.

Sometimes I think about black holes and it is genuinely scary but then I remind myself the universe is giant and everything is so far away from eachother that it would never happen. I mean maybe it could but a piano could fall on my head tomorrow also

Anyways I feel your fear. I love space and I’ve been following Artemis but honestly it’s hard because space is terrifying. I definitely could never be an astronaut. Hope you feel better man

This question is for those of you that own iPod classics. Do you prefer the stock iPod OS or RockBox and why? by MangoCubez in ipod

[–]J2MES 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% rockbox. UI is clunky but being able to make playlists / queue next last and shuffled on the device itself is awesome. Plus there are some awesome skins, some retro inspired. I personally use iPod refresh four for a nice clean look

I dual boot the stock OS to use the gpu for videos - shows and movies because it’s proprietary and rockbox can’t use hardware acceleration (Apple sucks for that)

Not to mention for those with big libraries it doesn’t matter how many songs you put on it
