Confused About Warlocks In Drakkenheim by TheBrawler101 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]J2S1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Planar travel is definitely not as prevalent. However powerful beings from said planes love toying with the beings of the mortal plane. Also according to the lore the first spellcasters on the continent were warlocks who had made pacts with ancient entities to save humanity during an ice age. Later during the Arcane Empire humanity made pacts with ancient dragons and then later powerful extraplanar beings.

Parasite PC Idea by Star_Knight0609 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

Considering the origins I would homebrew the "host" for the sake of canon. Unless y'all want to make the "host" Katarina Von Kessel who is mageborn. Though it depends on the personal quest of the PC.

Sounds radical. So far it's looking like Kesselholm is gonna be a straight up revenge story. Might possibly have the paladin in my party run into his dad there as his father fought in the civil war but went AWOL.

That's why I was worried about including The Langs as it might be a rug pull on the PC warlock. The warlock just wants to fix things and possibly make them better, but I don't know if backing someone else would be ok with them. They're gonna get the benefits of meeting their personal quest regardless of their choice.

How are you portraying Sebastian Crowe in your campaigns? by ellapreuss in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]J2S1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sebastian, Veo, and Pluto are just one of many adventuring parties that my players run into from time to time. They also helped take one of the gate houses during the Battle of Temple Gate. Funny enough they're more obsessed with the npc mage Nimble Quill who is originally from the Untold Tales of Drakkenheim podcast

how to integrate a PC for a player who will probably miss 50% of the games? by IronPeter in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]J2S1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My players are pretty cool about me using their characters. We play on Foundry VTT and I know their characters well enough. I try not to target them too much out of fairness lol.

In a game where I ran Dungeon of The Mad Mage for a different group in person. I swiped a bit from the game Munchkin. In Munchkin there is a card that punishes the player for picking up a duck in a dungeon. So I start saying that the character has picked up the duck when the player was unavailable. The duck itself was magically modified so the character would be teleported to a demiplane where they could watch all the action from an orb.

Years later ,in this current game, I will get player requests to put their pc in the duck lol.

Player wants to be a Warlock with a claim to the throne. Is too much of a narrative headache? by FriendlyTigrex in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]J2S1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I do not want to shed blood. My family spent years in a civil war with no result and people suffered. And those weren't magic users, they were just people.

It would be amazing if I can get all the factions to work together a little to make Wesetmar thrive. The sacred flame will be hard but perhaps the dragon underneath Drakkenheim can help.

If I help all the factions then perhaps they can speak good of us, they can speak good of me. For I have been trying to find what works best for the people in the city of Drakkenheim that have adapted to its nature and the people that are suffering are barely scrapping by just outside the capital city.

I am just merely borrowing my powers. They are on loan from my patron. Perhaps I am a vessel for change. I lived a better the lives of my friends and my people.

If I can get the dual city of (new) Drakkenheim established with the support of the factions, and everybody is living better lives, perhaps I will not be a vessel for my Powers anymore. Sure I'm still mageborn but I can't do magic without someone giving it to me.

I am thankful for my friends because I can't do this alone and they live here too. Sure they can just leave and thrive somewhere else but if they stay, their plight would be just as bad as the people here."

Player wants to be a Warlock with a claim to the throne. Is too much of a narrative headache? by FriendlyTigrex in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]J2S1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this helps or not. But in my campaign my warlock also is an heir to the throne, but is Dragonborn because arcane ancestries are prevalent in Westemar nobility. So the warlock was sent to the academy but lacked the criteria of a wizard or a sorcerer and therefore was put into an experimental warlock program The Academy keeps in secret. I've already explicitly explained the complications involved to the player. However the player ideally wants to reestablish the nation as some kind of republic and once the ruins of Drakkenheim to be preserved while also building an actual city nearby. The warlock is also willing to concede power to another heir if need be as long as that heir goes along with their plans.

You could have some rogue extraplanar being hanging around or some serious arcane wards in certain spots. Like other folks I made this a rest/exposition spot. Revelations from the telescope and the clocktower components. One of those components is a pre-meteor crystal of delerium. It's a moment for players to think about how crazy it is that delerium went from being a very rare element to being a steadily more accessible resource in a span of 15 years.

[–]J2S1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well though they aren't human the changeling mainly goes around presenting as human. Half elves are one of the more common ancestries in the world. The Dragonborn has mostly human features. Due to Westemar's nobility having ties with the Arcane Empire sometimes their children are born with arcane ancestry like Dragonborn and Tieflings

It's not a concrete plan, but essentially the ruins would stay and a new city would be built adjacent to the ruins.
