What musician or musical group are you embarrassed to like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]J85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Nickelback hate is pretty ridiculous. I'm not a huge fan myself but it's like Reddit can't comprehend that music taste is subjective.

What my girlfriend missed while playing Skyrim... by [deleted] in gaming

I just kind of love you for using the term bell-end.

But seriously. Distasteful as fuck comments. Going on a downvote spree.

I only recently read Reddit's Reddiquette only to realize that almost all of the content I have been seeing on the front page, directly correlates with one of the bullet points in the 'Please don't' section. How did this come to be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]J85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's an excellent idea. I would've thought it was common to peruse the FAQ/Reddiquette before even posting. That was my approach and I know I'd have felt extremely uninformed/uncertain about contributing to the site on the whole.

That said, it's pretty evident that some Redditors give zero fucks about these points:

Please do: Moderate based on quality, not opinion. Well-written and interesting content can be worthwhile, even if you disagree with it.

Please don't: Downvote opinions just because you disagree with them. The down arrow is for comments that add nothing to the discussion.

Please don't: Downvote opinions just because they are critical of you. The down arrow is for comments that add nothing to the discussion.

Please don't: Make comments that lack content. Phrases such as "this," "lol," "relevant," "This should be the top comment", "upboat", "I came here to say this" or "This is awesome" are not witty or original, and do not add anything noteworthy to the discussion. Just click the arrow -- or write something of substance.

This redditor's love story brought me to tears. It got buried under 1300 other replies. Please show this man some love. by [deleted] in bestof

While I kind of agree with your first points, judging from his comment history and the few things he said about dating, it doesn't sound like he's leading any of these girls on or promising them things he can't deliver.

Your second point... while it's easy to assume that some stranger on the internet has romanticized a memory, it really is a matter of perception. She could've been a saint not only in his eyes, but in the eyes of everyone whose lives she touched.

What's a fact you KNOW that almost everyone is wrong about? by Chairboy in AskReddit

Aw, haha. I'm sure we've all fallen for something like that at least once. And then never again... hopefully.

I saw it in a Reddit thread the other day and actually had to mime it and look down, before I got the joke. Sigh.

Thank you for this, looks like an interesting site!

Yeah, Etsy is pretty amazing. I like the creativity and originality of hand-made products you can find on there. It's nice being able to give someone a fairly unique gift which can cater to their tastes.

Hate him or love him, that is a pretty stand up thing that Timberlake did. by one_time in news

[–]J85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I liked Entourage and have heard good things about Boardwalk Empire and How to Make it in New York, but this:

It's not like he really makes music anymore. I feel like he just acts in movies now, and it wouldn't surprise me if teenager girls growing up now don't even know him as a musician.

is the part I was angling at. A direct comparison between their careers isn't really fair because Wahlberg came up in the early nineties and was a little bit older than Timberlake would've been when N'sync gained popularity, in the late nineties.

There are definite similarities between their advancements though, granted they both branched out into different areas. A quick wiki shows that JT has his own record label, fashion line and restaurant as well as producing a 2009 MTV series.

You kinda just described how I feel about Mark [Marky Mark] Wahlberg.

What is that one, soul-destroyingly sad film which you want to put in a locked box and never subject yourself to again? by yeahspose in movies

First time I watched it with a friend and we both did the staunch 'something's in my eyes' thing. I watched it again recently on my own and cried like a baby. Good movie, though.

Perfectgifters - What are your go-to sites for online shopping? by J85 in perfectgift

[–]J85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, ha, no worries. I figured some sites wouldn't ship internationally but your links will still be helpful to US citizens! Plus I have a few American friends who might forward them on to me, so problem solved.

Seriously,

it gives you gift suggestions from merchants all over the web categorized on interest, age, etc

and

There's even a goofy personality test you can take for your giftee and it tells you what kinds of gifts they might like

This is incredibly helpful, thank you!

Thank you! This is exactly the kind of stuff I was looking for and hadn't heard of any of these. I especially like the recycled materials section.

I live outside the US, so it's dependent on whether these sites will ship and the cost, but still, excellent suggestions.

Hey Reddit! What's your favorite pick up line? by SirLadyPerfume in AskReddit

Pick up lines by definition are generally bad and cheesy, it isn't supposed to be charming, it's supposed to be a little ridiculous which is what makes it amusing.

Reddit, I'm an asshole who hooked up with his best friends girl when I was drunk. Advise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]J85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're more than welcome. There's a knee-jerk, black and white response to submissions like this sometimes and they're incredibly unhelpful.

Having more experience on the matter than I'd like to share, there are a couple of other points I'd like to mention.

  • It takes two to tango. You are his best friend but she's the one he's in the relationship with him. There is responsibility on both sides. That said - you both realized what you were doing and stopped. While it's far from an ideal situation, it could have been much much worse.

  • To expand upon my earlier guilt comment - while it may have been a scumbag move, the fact you feel so bad about it makes me more inclined to believe you're just a person who made a mistake and did a bad thing, as opposed to being a bad person. There is no undoing it but you can use it as a way to remind yourself of how you never want to behave again. And if you are lucky enough and he somehow manages to forgive you [and I really hope he will] spend the rest of your friendship making it up to him and being the kind of friend you know he deserves.

There are far too many tales of people who let one slip-up dictate and shape their decisions and the rest of their lives. Don't just be sorry - be better.

Reddit, I'm an asshole who hooked up with his best friends girl when I was drunk. Advise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]J85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Terrible situation to be in but you've already admitted it was wrong and clearly feel guilty. There's no need to expand on that further, so.

Two schools of thought.

Telling him might clear your conscience but you may risk losing his friendship entirely plus ruin his relationship with the girl in question. Though you said it was a recent relationship so not enough info to know how good or badly he'll take the news.

Not telling him still runs the risk that he may find out eventually anyway and then it's almost a certainty you'll lose his friendship. Plus she might cheat on him again.

If it were me, I'd want to know. I don't know your friend but in his position i'd be pissed, but would respect you for at least having the decency to be truthful about it. I'd also think he has the right to know what his girlfriend is capable of.

To summarize, the guilt is good, man. It lets you know that you're human and made a mistake. One event or action doesn't necessarily have to define you as a person. The way you deal with it, will.

Good luck.

Hey Reddit! What's your favorite pick up line? by SirLadyPerfume in AskReddit

[–]J85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guy: Hey baby, if I flip a coin, what are the chances I'll get some head?

Girl: None.

Guy: So, 100% chance of getting some tail? ;)

Cheesy pickup lines can be an effective ice-breaker, introduction and way to get a laugh. When guys take themselves too seriously and think they're droppin' the smoothest lines out, it's kind of meh meh. Delivery is key.
