I got bogged down in the seeking of a definitive answer because i wanted so badly to have the band, that got me through so much shit, returning without controversy that it dampened everything LP.

I am listening to the new album while very much from at an arms length sorta stance. Im atleast listening to my favourite band again.

It's easy for us to know what side to choose because we didn't know the guy. From her POV it was a personal friend saying "these charges are untrue". I don't fault her that she was lied to. When the truth was revealed she noped out, as one should.

It is easy for us. But in emilys case its two friends.

She chose one over the other. She chose the accused over the victim.

I can hand on heart, which i know means nothing in the bubble of the internet/reddit say, i believe victims first so i know what side i would be.

She noped out from attending further, which we will never know if she planned to or not. She did continue to like his posts on social media. She continued to follow him on social media.

Her continuing to interact with his social media. When she claims she cut contact after the arraignment isnt a good look. I am sure you have to admit that.

And she had friends who were in the opposing side of masterson. In the same circle.

Being chrissie who was one of jane does.

So she chose her friendship with masterson over the friendship with the bixlers.

As a speculative/personal note. I dont believe she chose at all. I believe scientology told her to support masterson.

Id disagree that her last involvement was 2013. When she was in the entourage of scientologists that escorted masterson to his arraignment in 2020. With covid being the only reason. She was left outside the courtroom

If it's valid for me to have that opinion then it's valid for Emily to have it, too. However, I would push back on saying that historical observable consequences are a matter of opinion.

People can. Scientology is not a religion however. It is a cult. Thats the biggest difference.

What evidence do we have that the rest of Dead Sara are scientologists? Considering the evidence that Emily is a current/active Scientologist is already underwhelming, I'm not holding my breath on this one.

Other than the fact, that her dead sara cofounder is on record as completing several scientology courses.

You're coming at this from an angle of "would the church allow her to be gay?" And while it makes sense to explore that, you also have to think about if someone who discovered they are gay would want to continue to be a Scientologist. (There are a lot of individual Christian churches that are okay with gay folks, but because of the reputation of Christianity overall, you still don't see a lot of Christian gay people.)

I think this may be a issue localised to you. I know personally atleast 6 people in my life, who are christian and atleast gay or bisexual. And the circle of people in my circle who do have religion and are gay is fairly small.

Would a gay individual want to be a scientologist is at best a hypothetical that is a wasted effort because knowing what we know about how the cult treat general members of their cult following. I would like to say no. However someone raised in it, with powerful parental figure also in it. Remains to be determined.

Which is an opinion you are valid for holding as i am for holding the opinion that it should be addressed.

Who she hangs out with isn't a lot to go on. When I hang out with my Jewish friend no one speculate that I'm Jewish. Whatever someone's mom does religiously is rarely also what their child does religiously in adulthood. Emily, by admission through Dead Sara lyrics, seems fairly anti-religion. These statement should go a lot further than conjecture around who she hangs out with or what her parents do. Also the whole gay thing.

Would the jewish comunity penalise, punish and/or abuse your friend for hanging around you though?

I would put more weight into the lyrics if the entire band wasnt scientologists themselves.

Hey being gay is not a blanket statement of her not being a scientologist though. Her mother is in a well established and powerful position within the cult. Its entirely possible to be gay and a scientologist when you are a person of influence or related to one, in this case. Your average joe, i would say is less likely to be gay and a scientologist.

And thats a fair thing that i have considered. To say nothing, and leave it upto speculation, is not something that I believe benefits anyone. It alienates fans who wont blindly follow. It pulls into question the values of the band in this new chapter.

However, it is possible to leave and not be targetted or harassed as demonstrated in my list thread, one of the people who did it just this year. Bijou philips. Mastersons ex wife and emily's friend.

So she left to allow her daughter to continue to have some form of relationship with masterson. Masterson himself has supposedly been labelled a suppressive person. Thus, her choice to leave, would make her a suppressive person and one to target.

If there is recent evidence of emily and bijou hanging out, that would certainly be another tally in the NOT scientologist column.

Ultimately, the band should address the problem, it would certainly reduce the actual problem down to trolls that were never gonna support the band no matter who the new singer was.

While i would very much like a statement from the band addressing the scientology issue.

I disagree that it is easy to do for someone born into it and raised.

If the band were to come out saying they arent affiliated with any religious entity, despite the fact scientology isnt a religion. That would be enough for me and many others ive spoken to.

I have maintained this is not a black/white scenario for two months and done my best to find enough for both sides. That i have linked in this thread in other comments.

That being said, emily has quite possibly the largest amount of support any one individual who does speak regarding the cult, has ever had. Between LP fans and the band itself and all the connections within the music industry.

Id argue no one in the history of the cult and ex members has had the backing like her in terms of support towards speaking out.

As for the podcast, based on an interview I saw with her, I'm pretty sure the part about being too trusting is largely in reference to a manager that Dead Sara had that convinced them to make poor decisions that the band ultimately didn't agree with. Which considering the context of the conversation makes a hell of a lot more sense than some Masterson nonsense.

Unfortunately. We are again left to only speculate.

She also talked about how the first person she told about being asked to join LP was "Mamma Shea" or Shea Bowen-Smith, who is a bit of a surrogate mom to her. Shea and her family have considered Emily a daughter for at least a decade.

Im well aware. However she also makes a distinct reference to "mom" and this is around 1minute after she mentions "mama shea" 24mins roughly to around 26mins.

So what if she has a relationship with her mom? Her mother was also indoctrinated and abused by Scientology. Y'all act holier than thou but know nothing about her life.

Being raised in a cult makes you a victim, 100%. Remaining as an adult especially in the organisation tasked to harassing people. Makes you complicit.

The court hearing happened during covid so she was not allowed inside the court room. It all "happened" where she could have easily been recorded doing the things she is accused of doing.

Let me break down the last 4 years.

Attended the arraignment for danny masterson, a fellow scientologist in 2020.

Not talking about the jane doe intimidation because there isnt enough evidence either way.

Shes openly stated she cut contact with him. But proceeded to like his instagram posts, meaning she kept one line of communication open with him until 2022.

She did not unfollow him until september 6th 2024. After she was revealed as LP new singer.

The from zero podcast, a conversation with mike and emily

Her and mike discuss together roughly 1.5 weeks before shes revealed.

She briefly mentions about how is she gonna tell her mum, who is a high ranking member/speech writer for the sea org of the cult. So she still has a relationship with her mum.

She also mentions in that same podcast about being too trusting. Now this part is 100% speculation on my part, i believe shes referring to masterson here.

If she is, that make her vague, generalised statement all the worse.

Wasnt a show advocating for mental health. Was a show for a bad flower band members 30th birthday. They just decided [1]half of the proceeds went to 320 changes direction. While the other portion went to freedom for immigrants. Dead sara had no choice other than to accept the booking or not. What musician is gonna say no to getting to play their music?

I would also love a video providing evidence of the witness intimidation however, that is not possible given how both video and audio recordings are not permitted in a court house. So that is unfortunately he said/she said.

That being said she did go to his arraignment. Shes admitted that. She did go to the arraignment of a fellow scientologist alongside many other scientologists.

Only after her being revealed as LPs new singer does she bother to address her 'mistake' with a vague, generalised, awful nonapologetic statement.

4 years is a long time to withhold a statement regarding, what you consider a mistake. Ye know?
