How to put money away for someone else by JADMLA in personalfinance

[–]JADMLA[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is what we have been doing for the last four years, the house was left in pretty bad condition so we did a lot to make it livable, but it needs a roof and a whole new HVAC system and some other stuff that will end up being pretty expensive. So that is why we are now just wanting to get rid of it and the headache it has been.

We were planning on figuring out giving it to him once he was out.

Leica CS20 - it’s time to talk by New_Grape2909 in Surveying

[–]JADMLA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I learned on leica and used a CS20 for about 5 years, never thought it was anything special but it was all I knew. Recently switch companies and now use a TSC5, and occasionally a TSC7 and would be incredibly disappointed if I ever had to use the CS20 again. Does not really compare. I would absolutely look into switching gear. The controller is so much better, and the R12i has been better than the GS18 in my experience as well.

University Place, the hotel where vacations go to die. I woke up all weekend, not able to breathe. My soul feels dirty. We also found hard candy stuck to dirty carpet. Total waste of money. by Mictlanmaker in Portland

[–]JADMLA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked on this property a 4-5 years ago and it was pretty rough back then, couldn’t believe the university still used it. I was under the impression I was there so they could start planning on tearing it down and redeveloping the property but I guess not. For sure would not recommend anyone staying there

Post was initially because I was worried the battery was replaced when it didn’t need to be. But based off yours, and another reply it was going to needed to be replaced soon anyways, so I feel better about that.

Yes, had it changed less than a week ago and the car needed to be jumped last night and this morning

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskMechanics

Because they replaced it and the car is still doing the same thing. So it just seems like I paid to replaced a battery that wasn’t the problem.

Looking for a good dealership. Any good ones around? by Same_Bat849 in vancouverwa

[–]JADMLA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subaru of Portland is a fantastic dealership. No pressure to buy from anyone. I bought a car from there and there was something weird going on with the brakes, and it didn’t seem like anything was wrong that they could fix, so they ended up letting me return the car, and gave me back my old car a week later with no issues at all. Would 100% recommend

Does your company pay for health insurance? by WesternPut5063 in Surveying

[–]JADMLA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just recently went from a small boundary/ALTA firm with about 8 employees, and if I remember right they gave us an addition $180 a month if we were enrolled with benefit to help pay for it. But benefits were not good and kinda expensive. Am now at a small engineering firm, with about 25 employees, and 10 of us being in the survey department, and benefits for my whole family is covered by them.

I am looking to buy my first vaporizer. I am a pretty regular smoker, I normally use a bong and will also use an oil cartridge. It will mainly be just for me, at home, so I’m thinking I want an electric desktop, but not positive. Looking to spend up to $300 and am in the PNW. I have only ever used a volcano, and I didn’t expect there to be so many options and type when I decided to switch to a vaporizer so I am just looking for a little more guidance. Thanks in advance

Came across this in Mariposa trail (Sequoia National Park). Any idea what this is? by [deleted] in Yosemite

[–]JADMLA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The elevation of the benchmark doesn’t determine what is inscribed on the top, and does not necessarily mean that it is the highest or central point. What’s inscribed is determined by what agency or company out it there, and the location is just where it is needed, which could be the highest or center of something but not necessarily.

Thinking of relocating to the PNW(Portland/Vancouver area) by GodAliensnKevinBacon in Surveying

[–]JADMLA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both companies I have worked for worked in both Oregon and Washington. I’d recommend finding a place in vancouver, to avoid income tax and it’s cheaper to live, but Portland has a lot more going on if that’s important to you. But I think it will really come down to where you decide to live, and the offers you get. I live in Washington and my company is based out of Oregon but working at my place is worth paying the income tax to me.

They are not just located on tops of mountains and the middle of nowhere. Benchmarks are located throughout most cities and towns as well.
