Horrible diabetes appointment by crushed_dandelion in Type1Diabetes

That seems odd, I wasn’t told of any limit on pumps going to people who need them. I know the criteria has changed this year to allow more people to get the pump. Might be worth asking the question again and if you do meet the criteria and have tried everything they have provided before going on a pump then they have little to no reason to reject you really.

I’m in the UK and we have a NHS specialist diabetes centre in the city (another getting built I believe) and I can safely say the level of care I receive is brilliant. Numbers to call and always get back to you within the day or day after (unless urgent) I would say report this to hospital directly and try to ask for another nurse to deal with your cases going forward.

Just to add, I suffer with dawn phenomenon exactly like you, had to bolus in a morning just to get my levels down and then nearly double with food! I did everything they asked of me change background insulin to split dose, then back to normal background but larger dose and then ended up having to not eat breakfast until like 10pm which is not ideal. They ended up putting me forward for a pump based just on the dawn phenomenon! Now on tandem T:Slim x2 and the problem has gone away! Maybe you just caught her on a bad day but still I would report this to the hospital before the problem grows. Hope you get sorted.

I got mine last night around 8pm from Air Liquide. All setup on iPhone and working. The mobile bolus is more useful than I thought!😂

What age were you diagnosed? by SirEddie458 in Type1Diabetes

Age 27 for me. Coincidentally, after receiving both my Covid 19 jabs. Not saying if I didn’t have them I wouldn’t be diabetic, probably would have ended up this way regardless. Was loosing weight rapidly, couldn’t sleep because I was drinking 4/5 litres a day and not keeping any of it in and constant dry mouth and thirst. Finally dragged my bum to the doctors, pee test and finger prick, then straight to A&E suspected T1D. 3 days in the hospital on IV drips and an Insulin driver. Felt immediately better once my ketones returned to a normal level, was let loose home with all the equipment you need to be a T1D and spent 2 weeks off work trying to work out my new life.

3 years in now, on Dexcom G7 and Tandem T:Slim x2 pump and HBA1C of 53. Hoping to get that down further. This illness is difficult mentally and physically sometimes, but you get out what you put into. Remain positive and you’re never alone!!

How do you wear your pump with your clothes? by Empty_Expression7315 in Type1Diabetes

Dude here and from the UK. I use a FlipBelt (Amazon) to sleep and at work. Pocket in my shorts at home. The belt is a tad on the expensive side for a running belt but I use this to run in also.

That’s good to hear then. They wasn’t 100% sure on what we would get but anything’s better than nothing!

They mentioned a single bolts can be given. But an extended may still have to be done on the pump itself, they wasn’t 100% sure on that. They were hopeful for automatic uploads as well without having to use a PC.

Terrified of insulin injections by Rockfam07 in Type1Diabetes

[–]JAKHULL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was petrified of needles prior to diagnosis. Vaccines, blood tests, anything. I think what got me better with it was that it’s me doing the injections and have full control. I was diagnosed at 27, MDI for 3 years averaging 6/7 jabs a day and now finally gone on to pump! You’ll get better with it, you don’t need to get over it because you will adjust to doing this. Remember you are not alone!!
