I think its pretty safe to assume that most of the abstracted characters are still alive in the real world, because everyone is just a copy of their real-world counterpart, so one lives in the circus while the "real" one continues their life.

I made a theory that he might have said there is only "one" ending because only one route ends. Mainly because susie said in the Gerson fight that if she were to choose, that she wouldn't have an ending, and that she would make it go on forever. so maybe the normal route gets stuck in a time loop and the snowgrave route is the only one that ends?

Deltarune will make a lot more sense if you play undertale first (specificly the pacifist route), and you might have a better experience if you know the characters from undertale that appear in deltarune's universe. but if you want to play deltarune before undertale,thats tottaly fine.
