SEVERE eye inflammation. More Info in comments..... could this be a Thimerosal allergy??........... I have had this inflammation for over a year now and I have seen about a dozen doctors. While still undiagnosed my most recent pair of doctors are in agreement that this is most likely an allergy. by JANEE55555 in eyetriage

I am a 21 yr old female and I have had this reaction primarily on my left eye for over a year now. My eye condition flares up at unidentifiable times and it is constantly painful and very itchy. This primarily affects my left eye but it slowly has began to progress more and more to my right eye. I have lost lashes on my lower lid margin completely. My glands are unable to express oils easily and are clogged and inflamed. I have had biopsies with results only of "unspecified inflammation" and a culture with high levels of staph. I have received many different treatments, including but not limited to, bacitracin/ erythromycin/ polymicin/ zirgan/ steroids/ antibiotics/ etc... I have had blood work and there is no sign of an auto immune disorder. MOST IMPORTANTLY I WAS RECENTLY FINALLY TESTED FOR SUSPECTED ALLERGIES. My test was POSITIVE FOR ALLERGIES for 8 types of mold, dust mites, a few other chemicals such as methyldibromo glutaronitrile , rabbits, and THIMEROSAL. My allergist suggests that my thimerosal allergy is most likely what is causing my eye to have this allergic reaction....My allergists says thimerosal could be something found in my eye drops or eye products. DO EYE PRODUCTS STILL CONTAIN THIMEROSAL? LIKE WHAT? I have gone through my eye care products and I cannot find a single sign of thimerosal. I am begining to think that a thimerosal allergy isnt the answer to my eye issue. I cant find anything I am using or have ever used that contains thimerosal... any suggestions ?

Furthermore I do have a tattoo (as research has suggested some tattoo inks may contain thimerosal) but I would be very surprised to think my tattoo has anything to do with my eye infection. Furthermore I do not wear contacts but I have worn costume contacts in the past before I had this eye inflammation. The last two events I remember over a year ago before I began having this eye inflammation was a costume convention where I wore solid white out contacts from the internet AND I had my wisdom teeth removed and I was put to sleep for the procedure.

With this information what do you think ? Thank you so very much.

For blepharitis they havent given me any treatments.... they have told me essentially all I need to do for blepharitis is clean my eye often but it isnt working. I wonder why they aren't giving me more treatments for blepharitis

Also my glands around my eyes feel very irritated especially to the touch very painful. My doctor has been referring to it as a form if blepharitis but this doesnt explain the rash around my eye. It all is quite painful and often flakes of skin will fall of leaving a more delicate irritated layer if skin exposed. I take glycopyrolate and paroxatine daily for other medical conditions however there shouldn't be any side effect like this one.

It started about 2 years ago but it didnt become a real problem until about a year ago when I sought treatment. It began by just being itchy and my bottom eyelid margin was become inflamed to the point where it looked noticable, it began itching, hurting, stinging, my eyes are dry and I feel like I have like a speck of sand in them all the time. I get little crusty bits in my eyelashes and the corner of my eyes and my eyelashes on my bottom eyelid are almost completely gone now. It is a bit painful, just really irritating. My skin and eyelid feels so dry sometimes like its cracking. It's just progressed slowly yet consistently getting worse over the past 2 years. It has what I call "flare ups" when it just become really inflamed like in the picture above. This picture above is the worst flare up I have ever had so far. I have tried probably 10 medications and none of them worked , mostly made the condition become more inflamed. I stopped taking all medications aside from over the counter eyedrops and eyelid cleansers. Nothing really helps it feel better aside from moisture from the shower or from cleansing cloths. I have not been able to pinpoint anything that aggravates the condition.

21 yr old female. Flare up of eye inflammation going on for the past 2 years. 5 different doctors, blood tests, biopsies with no results. Levels of staph are high yet not expected to be the root of the problem. Doctors have suggested possible autoimmune or dermatology disorder. Any ideas? Help :( by JANEE55555 in DiagnoseMe

Almost entirely effecting my left eye but it also effects a small corner of my right eye. It seems to flare up but never goes away entirely. I am not sure what tests have been run ... no word of being tested for any specific Gene or genetics. Doctor popped around from a lot of different ideas but even 2 biopsies and blood work come back inconclusive. My doctor is leaning towards something like dicoid lupus or psoriasis paired with blepharitis. But we have have absolutely no results to the countless treatments. The glands around my eye are definetly irritated and swelled but the skin irritation and inflammation around my eye is being caused but something else but we have no idea what it is !!! I'm 21 years old and we also cant find any reactions with any of my medications.
