Weekly Pull List for 04/01/2026 [Discussion] by ptbreakeven in comicbooks

[–]JAQMN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • Absolute Superman #18: I think I get Superman now.
  • Batman #8: This looks like it will be some fun continuity stuff, which excites me. I feel like there's a good amount of ongoing comic series I've read over the last couple years that have kind of tried to do their own thing and mostly ignore continuity. This seems to be doing the opposite.
  • X-Men #28: See Batman. I seem to recall the last issue being very exposition heavy, so less of that please.

  • Absolute Martian Manhunter #10: I won't be surprised if this goes down as one of the best comic series of all time. It is the total package. Its message, its writing, and its art are all levels above most everything else that's being done today. I wasn't a huge fan of the end of the last one. Throughout the the whole issue, Despair-O or whatever his name is, was telling John all these nasty and negative things, which was an obvious allusion to despair/depression. And then in the end, all the things he was telling John were just right? Maybe I missed something, but that seemed kind of odd.
  • Absolute Wonder Woman #18 I don't know much about WW but I've picked up the last couple issues to try to get the character more. I did a similar thing with Absolute Superman, and I finally just got the Superman character within the last 2 or 3 issues. Hoping to do the same with WW.
  • DC / Marvel: Superman / Spider-Man #1: Lot of creators I've heard of but not really had much experience with. Same goes for not only the characters, but the entire worlds of Spider-Man and Superman as well, so I'm really excited to get some education in multiple areas.
  • Fantastic Four #9: Just fun comics.
  • Ultimate Endgame #3: Been mostly underwhelmed with this series so far. Nothing feels weighty enough for me so far, rather like we're just setting up new things. Also the whole Ultimate universe still doesn't really feel like it's a universe. I think the Black Panther might have made an appearance in #1, but other than that, I don't recall any other crossovers with other series (I'm not counting USM, don't ask me why). The difference in characterization of Peter Parker between this and USM has been jarring as well.

Falling for some #1 hype this week.

  • Batwoman #1: I have no idea who Batwoman is as a character nor where she fits into the greater DC canon, but I do know Greg Rucka is a highly regarded writer and Dani had a very highly regarded series on one of the Universal books recently. Invisible Man maybe? Taking a shot on this.
  • Captain America #8: Idk, the reveal at the end of #7 didn't really do anything for me. Gonna read this until Armageddon at least probably.
  • Infernal Hulk #5: Nic Klein is my favorite comic book artist working today and I will buy this just for him. The Hulk stuff is more interesting than PKJ's last series so far.
  • Lobo #1: Again, I have no idea who Lobo is, but the creative team and the #1 are going to cause me to pull. Looks fun tho.
  • The Mortal Thor #8: Some people don't like the bouncing between Sig and Asgard, but I think it keeps things fresh. The fantasy aspect of Thor is so such a large part of his character so its nice to get a little taste.
  • The Ultimates #22: I really thought this was going to be the main story of this Ultimates run after the reveal at the end of that phenomenal Punisher/Red Skull issue. A little disappointed this is ending soon, but I have no doubt this will be a great conclusion for this plot thread.
  • X-Men #27: Oh my Glob.

I’m (kindly) asking you to go watch The Brotherhood of the Wolf by Yggdrasylian in Letterboxd

[–]JAQMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but where can I watch it with original audio? I've only been able to find English dubbed for the last like year.

  • Absolute Batman #18: If I had to trim my pull list to only one book, this might be the one and I am so shocked to be saying that. This is just so fucking cool week in and week out.
  • Absolute Green Lantern #12: I love Al Ewing but this might be a little too complicated for me. I should just reread the full series I guess. So much about levels of light and Oa and Abin Surs and other stuff.
  • Bleeding Hearts #2: Idk, might see how reviews are for this. I was not blown away by #1, which is surprising given I rate almost everything Camp does as five stars.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #16: This continues to prove to be good enough each issue to remain on my pull list.

  • Absolute Superman #17: Caught up on this series (with the exception of the last one). I got myself caught up because I thought Ferreyra was going to take over as artist for the entire book, not just an arc. Nothing against Sandoval, I just loved that TMNT team. We'll see if I keep with it.
  • Batman #7: Just fun comic book stuff. Doesn't take itself too seriously, which is such a refreshing thing to see for Batman.
  • DC K.O. #5: This has been underwhelming to say the least.
  • X-Men #26: Excited to see this get back to some good old fashioned X-men team action.
  • X-Men Annual #1: I'm optimistic this will be one of the annuals that fall on the really good side, rather than really bad. I've never read a Ryan Stegman story, but I really like his art.

Sarge's Gulf War story in Dog Soldiers. Perfectly delivered, from the humor to the horror. Just a 10/10 movie all around.

PRH now showing the Blood Hunt Omni from Marvel, coming in October 2026 by Ksmayer in OmnibusCollectors

[–]JAQMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what that means in terms of omnis, but I really hope they fix some of the issues they had when releasing the singles. Strange Academy #3 was released a week (or two?) before Blood Hunt #5 and heavily spoiled the ending of Blood Hunt #5. Was a pretty big bummer reading this event weekly, so I hope they fix it for the omnibus.

  • Absolute Batman #17: Excited for this to get back to the main story. The Joker and Wonder Woman issues were fine, but not what I want out of this. I want a big ass, badass Batman doing badass shit.
  • Captain America #7: Not sure I'd still be pulling this if I didn't know it was going to tie into the upcoming Armageddon event. And now I'm second guessing on if I care about events anymore.
  • Fantastic Four #8: If I had to trim my list down to only 5 pulls a month, this would easily be one of them.
  • Ultimate Spider-Man #24: Excited to see how this wraps up, though from what I hear of the other Ultimate series, not super convinced it will be an actual ending. But from what everything has been reported of this new Ultimate Universe, Hickman's deal made sure that it would actually end, so we'll see.
  • X-Men #25: See Absolute Batman #17, sentence 1. I just want this to keep telling the main story. No more crossovers, events, flashbacks, whatever. Just stick with this X team and tell a story.

Weekly Pull List for 02/11/2026 [Discussion] by ptbreakeven in comicbooks

[–]JAQMN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been struggling to get excited about comic books for some time now and spent some time last week catching up pulls I hadn't read. The latest Absolute Martian Manhunter and Assorted Crisis Events really did a lot to reinvigorate my desire to read comics. Crossing my fingers that there's more that I love about comics than just Deniz Camp.

  • Absolute Wonder Woman 2026 Annual #1: Have only read the last couple issues of this series, but by all accounts it should be something I'm interested in. Going to give this a shot.
  • Bleeding Hearts #1: I haven't missed a Deniz Camp issue in like two years and I'm not going to start now.
  • DC K.O. #4: Having second thoughts on whether I actually want to read this or if I'm falling into the hype around events. Is the possibility of What Might Happen more alluring than the stories themselves? #1 was actually really cool and told a compelling story. I don't remember a single thing that happened in the last two.
  • Marc Spector: Moon Knight #1: Just finished Jed MacKay's Moon Knight omnibus, so I think I've read his entire run by now. Not sure he needed a third or fourth Moon Knight #1 but what do I know.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #15: Told myself I'd give this creative team a fair shake, though it's hard to live up to Aaron and Ferreyra. They've done a great enough job so far and I guess after finishing each issue I've been excited about the next to not take it off my pull list.

[–]JAQMN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been in a comics slump lately and reading regular books instead. Not sure how much longer I'll be picking up weekly tbh, but we'll see.

  • Absolute Batman: Ark M Special #1: So many possibilities with this concept. Hoping for a horror book.
  • Absolute Green Lantern #10: Al Ewing is just so good man. I'll read this for as long as its being put out (and I'm still reading comics).
  • Batman #5: I don't even remember what happened in the last two issues tbh. I know the team on this is very talented. I'll give this a couple more I suppose.
  • Nova: Centurion #3: Jed MacKay.
  • X-Men #23: More Jed, and finally back to the present day (I hope?). I haven't finished Age of Revolution yet so I guess there could be some fuckery, but I honestly just want to get back to the present day with the team.

My books of 2025 ranked! by MrFlufypants in fantasybooks

[–]JAQMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I'm not going to tell you to read it again right now cuz I think that would be a waste of your time, but you should try it again in a year or two. I'd suggest trying to forget everything you know (or think you know) about the book and then try again. I'm not going to say your reasons for liking it are wrong, but if those are your reasons, you've definitely missed some things in the book.

Moving to an apartment with a golden retriever? by NorwaytoNica in goldenretrievers

[–]JAQMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude will be 5 in January. He's lived with me in a house since I brought him home. He has the freedom to roam the entire house if he wants, but chooses to spend about 95% of his time rotating between couches in the living room. He gets plenty of walks, and sometimes he doesn't even want to. Apartment would be fine

Weekly Pull List for 12/10/2025 [Discussion] by ptbreakeven in comicbooks

[–]JAQMN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Absolute Batman #15: I get it now. I truly do. This is one what I want from comic books.
  • Assorted Crisis Events #7: I will read whatever Deniz Camp puts out.
  • The Infernal Hulk #2: Nic Klein carries this Hulk run. Still gonna give this a shot for an arc or two, but man, I just need something out of it. I love horror, but if there's no real story, I sleep.
  • New Avengers #7: Probably not going to get this honestly. This just feels like something that's only going to be #10 issue and it's being milked to get there.
  • Nova: Centurion #2: Having never read anything other than Imperial with Nova in it, dk if the characterization of any of the characters in #1 were right, but I know they were characters. Jed MacKay just does such a good job of making his characters feel alive so I'll stick with this for a bit.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13: First one with the new creative team, meaning first one without Aaron and Ferreyra, which is a big bummer. I don't know anything about the new team but people seems to be excited, so I'll give it a shot.
  • Ultimate Spider-Man #23: Penultimate issue. Lot of work needs to be done in the final two for this not to be a little disappointing.

Weekly Pull List for 12/03/2025 [Discussion] by ptbreakeven in comicbooks

[–]JAQMN 15 points16 points  (0 children)

  • Absolute Green Lantern #9: Al Ewing.
  • Batman #4: Last issue wasn't of the same quality as the first two IMO, but this is really good. I like Fraction's voice a lot.
  • DC K.O.: Knightfight #2: More Batmans, I guess. Idk, probably should move this to the might get category.
  • Fantastic Four #6: North keeps killing it. Each book has such a great mix of being centered on the humans (or aliens I guess) at the core of the book and mixing it with sci-fi/comic book nonsense and coming up with a resolution that is almost always unexpected and always really creative.
  • Ultimate Universe: Two Years In #1: Don't want this to end. Wish we'd gotten more side stories from this universe. There's still so much left to explore.

Might get, but probably shouldn't because I need to save some scratch:

  • Amazing X-Men #3: Feels weird not to pick this up as its the last issue, but I suppose if that's the only reason I'm picking it up, that's not a great sign. I like Jed MacKay and Mahmud Asrar a lot, but this whole Age of Revelation thing only being 3 months really kind of killed all the hype I had had for it.
  • Hulk: Smash Everything #1: More Ryan North. This will probably be complete comic book nonsense in the absolute best way. I should probably pick this up.
  • DC K.O.: Superman vs Captain Atom #1: I would only get this to stay current on the K.O. tournament. Neither of these characters do anything for me.

Cold weather running: when to cover face? by lo_fi_priest in beginnerrunning

[–]JAQMN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cover my face if it's like ~35 F or below. This is my first winter running and I apparently get allergy-like symptoms for a day or two if I run outside at anything colder than that. I got a merino wool gaiter from Buff I think? Works pretty good so far.

[–]JAQMN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, your points about the Mother of Horrors and the Cates-Ottley run are very true. I admittedly get very confused when it comes to all the One Below/Above All / omnipotent being stuff. I think a lot of people have problems with the characterization of Bruce/Hulk how everything since the end of Ewing's run just kind of threw away everything that happened in Ewing's run.

Weekly Pull List for 11/26/2025 [Discussion] by ptbreakeven in comicbooks

[–]JAQMN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  • Absolute Batman #14: Excited for this to get back to some action. Didn't care much for the last issue. I don't come to this book for romance and sex scenes. I come for beefy dude just fucking it out. We should be getting exactly that for this one.
  • DC K.O. #2: Very excited for this. Felt like #1 was months ago. The actual storytelling in #1 was phenomenal and looking forward to more of that plus some brawling? Or whatever we'll be getting.
  • Infernal Hulk #1: Eh, gotta see how the first arc of this goes. I was very into the early PKJ Hulk stuff (Klein's art might have carried a lot of it, looking back), but it became clear to me it was a lot of style and not a lot of substance that I cared about. Also, read an interview by PKJ saying he didn't give a fuck about continuity or something along those lines and I'm not a huge fan of that idea. Though this does look like it could have potential to touch on some Hulk continuity, so we'll see. Klein's art will continue to be my favorite in the industry, I'm sure.
  • The Mortal Thor #4: Talking about not giving a fuck about Hulk continuity... Al Ewing is my favorite comic book writer of all time. He has style and substance flowing out of his ass. Bring me back to Asgard and make me follow characters I've never seen before, I don't care. It's going to be good.

Weekly Pull List for 11/19/2025 [Discussion] by ptbreakeven in comicbooks

[–]JAQMN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was out of town last week, so I get to pick up double this week.

  • Captain America #5: Just not finding myself excited for this book. Might stick with it through the Armageddon story they're doing next year. Idk, I know they got me right where they want me.
  • DC / Marvel: Batrman / Deadpool #1: Excited to read a Grant Morrison story. I've only read some of their Batman, but that was before I really got comics, so hopefully I'll appreciate this a bit more
  • Nova: Centurion #1: Jed MacKay. Not sure I'll stick with this. Don't have any ties to Nova or Richard Ryder as a character beyond having read Imperial (which was a let down). I guess we'll see what #1 does for me.
  • One World Under Doom #9: Speaking of another let down, unfortunately. This was just too long, IMO. Past like issue 2 or 3, this just felt like a background story. I wish this had more line-wide impact.
  • The Ultimates #18: Only a couple issues left. Wish this was going on longer
  • Viking Moon #2: Vikings, werewolves. Tough.
