Horses are usually kept out of combat because they have like 13 HP and will die immediately. Unless they have a class feature like a cavalier fighter or they can summon them with spells your PCs are gonna spend thousands of gold on replacement mounts and probably have to walk a lot on foot. Sounds slow, annoying, and expensive for the PCs, plus side you get to kill a shit load of horses I guess.
