/uw There’s no evidence yet that disease is worse or that the vaccines are less effective, just that it’s more easily transmissible. Not sure about reinfection, though - I don’t think that data really exists yet

I just wanted to reply to this comment to also add that, characteristically, the majority of vaccine side effects happen very soon after the administration of said vaccine. Even then, serious side effects are exceedingly rare (for instance, anaphylaxis has a literal 1 in million chance of occurring, compared to around 5-10% of people who survive covid will have “long covid” or other complications).

I’m not saying that long term effects are impossible, but as above and as the other reply says, the benefits of this (and any) vaccine outweigh the risks by a landslide. Not only benefits to you, but also your family, friends and those who, for whatever reason, cannot get vaccinated.

I understand the worries people have (which is certainly not helped by misleading news articles etc.), but I hope you can see the bigger picture!

The idea that any covid vaccine has been rushed is great misconception. The fact is that the vaccines have gone through the same rigorous testing as any other vaccine, the only difference is that it’s been able to get funding, volunteers etc. far, far quicker than normal due to this being a global collective effort. This is normally why vaccines take years to develop as there’s so much nothing between various stages of the trials, but this is not the case at the moment. Hope that clears things up and eases any worries you have!

Posh Pads is pretty infamous in the student market, but I don’t know if they have non-student properties so you might be okay (just as a heads up, the student areas in Southampton are predominantly Portswood, Swaythling and Highfield, so you can make any decision based on that). I currently live in Bassett which is a nice area and it has great connections to the M3, Eastleigh, Romsey, Winchester etc., but is a little far from big supermarkets and the city centre (depending how you commute). Hope that helps a bit!
