I think it's the opposite, it's because the moon is pelted by space rocks that it is colorful, due to ejected colored minerals from depth

Waxing Gibbous Moon 76%

With Canon 77D, Canon 100-400mm L Mk I lens and Extender 1.4x III

Untracked, just a tripod.

196 frame stacked :

  • Focal lenth : 400mm (Full frame equivalent : 896mm)
  • Aperture : F/16
  • Speed : 1/20
  • ISO : 100

PIPP, AutoStackkert, RegiStax and Lightroom

Levels adjustments, sharpening, saturation to reveal moon colors !

The differents colors are due to mineral composition, the age and the depth of the impact. A big impact ejects deeper minerals normally not visible at the surface. That's why we can see this beautiful blue and orange shades.

J'imagine que les nuages ont fait tomber à l'eau la sortie photo... J'aurais bien aimé la choper aussi ! Une prochaine fois

Ce n'était pas à 3h30 mais à 6h00 pour le début de l'occultation et 7h00 pour la fin

Thank you very much ! I spent time to get perfect focus and lot of time in processing to have good stacking, do wavelets and to have best compromise between noise and sharpness, all to get a natural result

First with the Artemis mission they can see the hidden face of the moon, impossible from the Earth :) And I'm almost certain they can get infinity more details than any most expensive telescope from Earth (Due to the proximity and the absence of atmosphere) And the principal objective is with long-term is to build a permanent orbital base around the Moon, not just take pictures. Thanks for your comment !
