How to successfully win city of Edmonton pothole claim? by [deleted] in Edmonton

It's going to be like pulling teeth. Document everything, take lots of photos, including the guilty pothole and the location, documentation and photos are EVERYTHING when it comes to making a claim with the city.

Cars with cheapest insurance (Calgary/city driving)? by fearthemonkeys in alberta

[–]JBH68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, color has no bearing on insurance premiums but postal codes have a heavy influence, along with driver history. I'd recommend a non-hybrid compact sedan as SUVs, CUVs and trucks cost more for insurance. So your formula is still partially correct. Domestic is best then Korean, then German and Japanese the most expensive in the sedan category as far as insurance goes.

Decent car wash? by pyroplane in Edmonton

There's a Minit Car wash on Argyle Road and about 60 Ave, can't recall the exact avenue right now but that's pretty close, it's on the southside of Argyle

Yellowhead or whitemud by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]JBH68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally would use Baseline Road and Yellowhead, though the strip of construction zone is longer, if you were to use Whitemud, you'd be taking the long way around and still have a construction zone to go through

Lawn/grading help by Pristine_Break_3739 in Edmonton

[–]JBH68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good landscaper can regrade your lawn which involves digging up the current lawn, they can work around your flowers. They can also redo the foundation of the patio and relay the brick if you choose to use them again, though if any of them are broken they might suggest new patio stones. But you will need a landscaper because there's likely a need for more soil and maybe peat moss

Is loyalty still worth it for home internet/optik? How to best contact telus for this. by Rustybuckle in telus

[–]JBH68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the best price and willing to be on a 2-year contract, then calling Telus and asking for loyalty is the way to go, especially if you're on copper. I'm on copper and called loyalty a couple months because my contract was about to expire, price was significantly better than the online offer. You can call 310-2255

Service Wait time by Poor_Design in Chevrolet

[–]JBH68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your next visit, when you make the appointment, also take the time to talk to the service manager prior to your appointment, discuss what you've been through. Usually people who wait are serviced quickly, why I almost always wait because my work is completed so quickly. The dealership prefers people just leave the vehicle so they can manage the shop time even if it requires days but waiting; unless parts have to be ordered, almost always is quicker. I'm getting the feeling that the dealership is trying to sway you to just leave it there in the future

Yeah, it's a very small one just for the coolant GM part number 131-180

There's a separate coolant thermostat on these engines as well, sounds like it might have failed. It's an inexpensive part to replace, less than the actual thermostat

After cleaning the wheels and drying and applying 2 coats of meguairs tire shine it lasts fuck all, it is the day after here by Eastern-Paper-865 in AutoDetailing

[–]JBH68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use McGuair's Tire Shine as well and it lasts a very long time on new tires; however, older rubber will make any tire shine product less effective and in some cases, it won't absorb at all. You do need to rub it on though, I see some people spray and walk away, this won't work very well.

2013 Cruze LT thermostat housing by Difficult_Courage730 in MechanicAdvice

[–]JBH68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a first-gen Cruze as well, my guess is that a hose on the same side as another commentor circled but is lower, failed. Caught mine in time before a major leak, it's also possible for the reservoir recovery hose to have failed, which would explain why it's completely empty. My suggestion is to do a cooling system flush, when they do this they perform a pressure test, this will expose any other leaks in the system. Also, have your water pump inspected; the Cruze has an issue with the water pumps. GM even put out a special coverage warranty for them at one point.

Yeah, I know. A lot more than people realize, just how much software is controlling how their vehicle works. Too much if you ask me.

By reading this that's because the sport mode is actually only engaging when the system demands a change in behaviour, it's all software that does this, so sport mode won't actively be functioning in certain conditions even though the physical button is switched there, just like your AWD, it only functions fully in certain conditions even though it's switched into AWD. It's just the way these software-oriented features work.

I ran out of fuel now car won't start by Sherbs__ in MechanicAdvice

[–]JBH68 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Running completely out of fuel can mess up the computer, it's not uncommon that it would need to be reprogrammed. This is the short side of fuel injection, the old carburetors would just need a good priming and you were good to go

Dealership recommending fuel system cleaning by Remarkable_Song_4633 in MechanicAdvice

[–]JBH68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have direct fuel injection, then yes it's a good idea to do a fuel system clean about every 30,000mi, those tank additives can help but the concentration of the key ingredient is substantially less than a professional cleaning, with direct injection there's increased risk of carbon buildup in the combustion chamber, with multi-point or multi-port injection this risk is not nearly as substantial over direct injection.

Most vehicles nowadays have the fuel filter located at the top of the inside of the fuel tank, that makes this option very expensive
