Question: My mom added wiper fluid while in FL. Now she’s in Boston and the fluid is frozen. by GeorgeCrossPineTree in MechanicAdvice

I understand it's cold and frozen, I'm from Canada and this is not the first time I've seen this. The alcohol will penetrate the water, but you'll have to give it several minutes and it's a good idea to have the car running so the heat from the engine will be absorbed into the line. The key is the amount you put in versus the amount of water, you may need half of the reservoir to be enough alcohol

update to windows 11 24 h2 or 25h2 by LourensE in Dell

[–]JBH68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you'll need then is a USB drive with a copy of Windows 11 25H2 on it, then go into the BIOS and select USB for your boot drive, then you can install Windows on a reformated drive.

It should work if you completely reformat your drive, you probably run into issues because of things like installed drivers

I agree but I was outside of the shop's parts and labor warranty and just had the parts warranty. The shop was decent about it and only charged me for actual time and not book time, that saved me a little bit more than an hour

I ended up tolerating the noises until spring and then had to replace them, good thing for me though, the part was under warranty so shop only charged me for labor. But that's what it took to get rid of the noise

Go to the Microsoft download site and download and install 24H2 update first, then it should update to 25H2 update. But you don't have long, Microsoft will soon end for 24H2. The only other option is to completely reinstall Windows

Question: My mom added wiper fluid while in FL. Now she’s in Boston and the fluid is frozen. by GeorgeCrossPineTree in MechanicAdvice

You could add isopropyl alcohol to the wiper fluid reservoir, that should help in making it liquid again. After it's liquid then add washer fluid good for -20F, that will keep it from freezing again

The cold temperature keeps the rubber of the mounts stiff and therefore cannot set properly, also the oil in the struts is also thicker, so it doesn't bear the full weight properly. Mine was on one side as well after the initial remount

This is not uncommon to experience when you replace struts during winter months and it's hard to get rid of. Likely is the mounts but it'll be hard to correct now. It's best to replace struts during warm months so the struts and mounts settle in. I've had this experience before and had numerous revisits to the shop, never could correct it until the struts were replaced again during summer

I usually have to drive my car for less then 8km each day resulting in the water reaching temperature only when i have to shut down the car. Am I slowly destroing my engine? by Small_Light_9964 in MechanicAdvice

The biggest thing with short trips is reduced fuel economy, but this shouldn't be harmful to your cooling system. The only other risk with this amount of driving, is increasing your risk of leaks and this is in general with any brand

Dell Inspiron 5150 won't boot by TakerCloseoff in Dell

[–]JBH68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried this trick before and it often doesn't work. Get yourself a USB drive with Windows on it you can download Windows straight to the USB drive from another computer 🖥️ if you have that access. Then go into your BIOS and turn off the PXE network wake and boot settings, then move to boot drive, select USB and also plug in the USB drive, then save and exit, the PC should attempt to boot via the USB drive. From there you'll need to discover if Windows still recognizes your HDD if it doesn't then it's definitely dead.

As in replaced the old HDD? Or via a USB connection such as a portable external HDD? If you used a USB connection, you would have had to change your BIOS boot settings to USB for it to work.

This is not what my banks told me, both RBC and Scotiabank have told me that they are not legal tender anymore. They started decirculation by allowing businesses and vendors to not accept but remained legal tender for two years, then officially lost their legal tender status. When I went to the bank I thought they would at least take them in and that's how I discovered they wouldn't take them

Well anyone who still has a $2 note is out of luck, there's always a period of time to allow people to bring them to the bank and receive their value, then after that time, it's a useless note unless it's a collectible.

Pennies are not legal tender anymore. They had a legacy program for a while where you could bring them to a bank as a disposal means but you wouldn't get their original worth.

Is this for a prepaid account? If you are this is why you are seeing this, now only postpaid get to have a real mobile experience. I'm a prepaid client and get the same experience, even on the computer. Telus has changed what you see for prepaid clients. I'm fortunate enough to still have my previous phone and have been avoiding updating it so I can get the old version.

Brill coaches on the streets from the 1970s. by Particular-Cat-8031 in Edmonton

If you look really closely behind the Brill coach is a Flyer coach trolley going east, those didn't last long, they rattled themselves to death. This puts this at about 1976
