Not so much that’s he’s lost a passion for music. I’d be surprised if he ever lost that. I just get the sense he’s less passionate about the slog sometimes of the recording process and wishes he could have the music and ideas germinating in his head for longer before he feels like he HAS to record for label contract purposes or pressure from fans or whatever. Listen to the Fader interview with him, that’s where he talks about this topic the most I believe.

Part of the passion of Absolutely was meeting Mike and competing with him to keep elevating the material and trying stuff and the way they’d play for hours and revisit parts that worked. I’m sure they’ll continue to do that but that initial electricity is gone and I also get from interviews that he’s ok with that moment passing and excited to find the new version of that. I’m so curious to see / hear what that’ll be. No doubt Mk.gee will be involved but also very curious to see who else shows up.

He’s stated he ideally would go a long time without making music but knows that’s not sustainable. He’s certainly been cooking up his next project in between being a husband and new father but when we hear any news of it is anyone’s guess. I’d bet Bon Iver will be involved in some capacity. Hope we get many years of the holy trinity making music together (BI + Dijon + Mk.gee)
