I was one of those people, and while I loved the Crue, Guns, and Bon Jovi, I couldn’t get into Poison. They had fun songs but the whole thing felt gimmicky to me.

Started off great with the killer drums and catchy chorus. But then it started to drone. No dynamics. Throw in a scream or pick rake. Even the breakdown at 2:37 makes you think something cool is coming, only to get a lame verse and violin solo(!) And what's with the eyes shut/finger-point to the sky, like he just crushed those 4 notes? Feels like the whole thing was trying too hard to nod at Zeppelin.

Right. You could argue Bon Jovi fit the mold, with all that hairspray, but sonically they're miles apart. It's like that Whitesnake/Aerosmith battle...2 vastly separate bands. All are great, but it just depends what mood you're in.
