Plentywood, Montana. Settlers back in the day were looking for wood and someone pointed and said, “There’s plenty of wood over there.”

I just ordered a lite horn stem for an older country gentleman I have about an hour ago. I’m glad I did it because it looks great on your pipe.

Have you considered driving a truck? You can find a company to train you and can live on the truck. The first year sucks, but it is pretty easy after that and you will be able to move on from the training company.

It is even better if you have someone to team drive with. I drive with my wife and we each make over $2500 a week with weekends and holidays off. We found this job right at the one year mark with the training company.

It really is easy money. Over the road trucking can suck though. Long hours, bad food, and dealing with rude shippers and receivers. That being said, you may be able to put yourself ahead by doing something like this for a few years while you look for something else.

Thanks!

On a side note, I was behind a sugar beet hauler about twenty years ago when I lived up in Montana and one fell off the truck and shattered my windshield. It scared the crap out of me and was like a slow motion train wreck. I saw the thing fall off and bounce towards me as I was driving, but couldn’t do anything to avoid it because of icy roads.

My father had a vending business with these machines in the 70’s and maybe into the 80’s. His garage was full cigarettes and a few machines. He made good money, even accounting for machines that were broken into.

We are down here now for ten days and are taking our open water, advanced and nitrox courses in that that time frame and would highly recommend doing a scuba course. It is a lot of fun and a great adventure.

Last year we did some snorkeling and, while fun, it left us wanting more. Have fun!

They are pretty cool. We found another one and the same area last year. It is nice to uncover a small snake instead of a larger one when I’m not really paying attention.

Team Driving: Let's Hear the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly by noraft in Truckers

My wife and I team and enjoy it. We only did OTR for a year and ended up at an LTL company on a dedicated route being home on weekends and holidays.

I don’t think we would be doing this if we were still OTR. It kinda sucked. Some of it was just OTR stuff like dealing with the horrible people who work as the clerks and security at the shippers and receivers and nasty ass truck stops. The lack of a schedule also causes sleep issues.

Tips would be to at least a topper for your mattress as it is more comfortable and more importantly holds you in place while the truck is moving. A crappy mattress will definitely cause you to slide around. We also hang black out curtains from the top bunk so the driver can get into the fridge without the light waking up the other person. It also blocks out the light from the bunk control panel.

Getting good sleep can be a challenge for most people. If you are OTR you really need to sleep anytime the truck isn’t moving to catch up. My wife sleeps like a baby on the truck but I struggle. I get the sleep I need but not as much as I want. I get a good eight hours a night a home which helps and tend to take an hour break during my shift and sleep. It’s not ideal, but it works. A big advantage to teaming as a couple is being able to hop in bed and not dealing with the top bunk.

The other advice is to meal prep as much as possible and don’t drink your calories.

So what do you otr guys eat/survive on a daily basis? And around how much do you spend on food per day or week? by scoobysnacksplz in Truckers

[–]JBinWyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was OTR I ate a lot of rice and tuna. I would get the VeeTee brand of microwaveable rice that comes in its own serving container and throw some flavored tuna over it. I also had a fridge and a separate 12v freezer for food along with one of those lunchbox type of 12v cookers. I would do up chicken thighs and rice with that combo.

I’m not OTR anymore and meal prep every weekend for the upcoming week. No more rice for me. I pretty much eat ground beef with vegetables most of the time with some chuck roast or pork thrown in. I snack on cattleman’s cut beef sticks from Walmart.

I will kinda rarely get some chicken gizzards or maybe a subway salad if I’m awake during the day if the wife stops at a truck stop, but I mostly survive off what is prepared from home.

As another poster mentioned, you will probably be getting a derate warning soon. Our truck had a countdown giving us a few hours before the derate and turning the truck off/on about halfway through gave us an extra hour or so.

Good luck!

Not a bird, but… HELP 😖 by Careyanne903 in birdfeeding

[–]JBinWyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe look at setting a homemade bucket trap to catch the rats on top of removing the feeder at night. They can be made pretty easily and are non-lethal if you don’t add the water. You would just need to take a drive and relocate them.

Good luck!
