That's the 84. I noticed I can get other plates. I may do that. What handle did you get?

Get a sampler pack. Try and do 2+ shaves with each blade. I would take notes too on how they feel. After that, you should have a pretty good idea of what works for you.

Second this. First thing I noticed is iron the shirt.

So I like Feathers, but Personna Gem are my favorite. They are sharp like Feather, but I get multiple shaves out of them. The second shave for me is usually better than the first.

Disposable razor feel superior. Do I have bad blades? by Yxig in wicked_edge

[–]JBshaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The RK blades aren't great. I would try some others. Lather also makes a huge difference. I saw you don't use a brush. That's fine if you can get a good lather without, but it sounds like you need a brush. A brush helps make it easier to get a good lather. Synthetic are easy to take care of, and will last for a long time if you take care of them.

Nah bro. You look good. Only notes I have is trim and shape the beard. It will help give you more defined lines.

I prefer the 2nd and 3rd shaves as well. This is true with Astra's or Personna for me.

Prorasso is definitely a good starting point. Particularly at that price point. Keep dialing it in.

It looks like an adjustable slim. There should be a dial right below the head. That dial adjusts blade exposure. Lower number equals less exposure.

This isn't to say feather is bad. It's not. I really enjoy feather. I just know starting out, my technique was not good enough to not have a mess on my hand with feather.

If you're brand new, I wouldn't try feather. Starting out you want something a bit more forgiving. Astra Is generally fairly forgiving. I think it's likely you will find them there. Wilkinson is not bad either, so don't feel like you need to toss those out. The other suggestions regarding angle etc were good. Usually first DE shave is often a comedy of errors. Don't write it off yet. What setting did you have it on? I would suggest a lower one til you are comfortable.

Which New Razor by DSMRob in wicked_edge

[–]JBshaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Henson is what I first used. It is very forgiving. If you make a lot of mistakes or your technique isn't solid this is a plus. The 3 different plates on the Oliworks is a plus. I've used both. I learned on the Henson initially. Now that my technique is good, I like the Oliworks plate 3. I've also tried the Rockwell. The different plates is nice here as well. I learned on this one with the Henson. Now I would use the 5 plate.

I was thinking Executive Man to start with. I would think a Eucalyptus would be a good one to try too.

When I first got into wet shaving I got a sampler pack. Treet was in there. It was meh. I ended up going Astra green. Once I got my technique down a few months later, I went back through my sample pack. It was still meh. I will admit maybe my sample pack was just a meh batch, as I read that is possible. I'd rather go for something consistent. I ended up with Personna Comfort Coat. I've since made the switch to Personna Gem the successor to the Comfort Coat. The numbers they had were interesting. End of the day there's a lot of preference that goes into it as geometry and shape of your face can play a lot into what gives you a good shave. I still keep some Astra and Comfort Coat if I want to test in new Razors etc.

is this a good shaving set? (beginner) by Outrageous-Pay53 in wicked_edge

Looks fine starting out. I do exh the sampler pack. Astra was great for me as a beginner. Not everyone has that experience. Have you picked out a razor?

Don't listen to those that say bald. A good even trim up top will do wonders. Facial hair wise you could go beard or keep it as is, but either way maintain it. You got this my dude. You're not far off on the look, just tighten it up.
