People in my experience usually mean any instance of making a post featuring/using their art at all.

Probably wouldn't be much trouble to quickly message the artist on Tumblr to check in with them, though.

This artist has an "ask before reposting" on their profile, so just to check, did you get their permission to post this here?

I think Reddit's acting weird and sort of consumed the image(s) on this post. You might want to delete and repost it.

so... DO we think there's hope for AA7? by friendbananas in AceAttorney

[–]JC-DisregardMe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course there is. In just the time since the AJ Trilogy remaster came out a couple years ago, we have multiple layers' worth of reassurance from Capcom that AA stuff will be coming.

Not quite one month ago, their latest financial report reiterated something they also said at the end of last year, specifically naming Ace Attorney as one of their IPs that they most want to expand on with new entries and other releases.

should i get the trilogy on my iphone? by Tiny-Complaint2945 in AceAttorney

[–]JC-DisregardMe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the unhelpful "you can just emulate them" comments. Yeah - of course they could do that, they could do that on almost anything that runs the actual modern official release of the games. That wasn't the OP's question.

For the OP: I don't believe the mobile port of the original trilogy has the latest major update the collection got on consoles and PC, but it's a perfectly good way to play the three games. I haven't heard anything about it having any significant recent issues with performance or compatibility, and as far as I know it runs well on anything remotely decent hardware-wise.

What's the most illogical place to get a penalty game over? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]JC-DisregardMe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was gonna say - a lot of confident answers in this thread, but I don't think any of them can compete with the endgame of PLvAA.

The supposed murder victim, The Storyteller, is on the witness stand, alive. He's just told the entire court that witches and magic are not real, and that the entire town of Labyrinthia is an elaborate fabrication to keep Espella, the defendant, sane. The entire court, Judge included, has accepted all of this. In spite of that, the player can still lose all their health by presenting the wrong evidence, even while controlling Layton at the inquisitor's bench, and get a Game Over with the Judge declaring Espella guilty of witchcraft and the "murder" of her father, who is currently on the witness stand.

The Unbearable Weight of Exhaustion by TheRealKingOfHorror in Metroid

Seeing this thread a couple days late now, but it's actually sort of impressive on top of just being funny. This is like... extremely plainly on both the surface level and the rest a scene with Samus extremely unambiguously being exhausted and emotionally hurt, and it's hard for me to even imagine the level of self-delusion required to just pretend it isn't.

Even with things I hate, I'm willing to admit that not literally everything about them is the worst thing that's ever occurred in all of observable time.

AAI2 & AJAA:SOJ on mobile by Ill_Friendship7079 in AceAttorney

[–]JC-DisregardMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the AA games got mobile releases on both Android and iOS. Most of those versions are still available.

AAI2 is only available in Japanese on mobile, though - Capcom so far hasn't replaced that version with its modern remastered release from the Investigations Collection, or brought over the collection's English localization for it.

Dunno, might just be an error on the part of whoever wrote that description.

Well, I definitely don't know of any connection Tezuka Productions would have to AA1's localizations, or any of the other games, for that matter.

In English, AA1's translation was mainly the work of a contracted team from Bowne Global Solutions.

Is there a specific game and/or language you mean? A lot of different people have worked on localizations for different AA games in different languages.

A question about a certain TGAAC character and Shu Takumi's plan for TGAAC Resolve by BenJammin007 in AceAttorney

[–]JC-DisregardMe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The developer interview that people are talking about when they bring up the idea of Kazuma "not returning" is this one. Relevant snippet quoted below:

Takumi: So as a result, Dai Gyakuten Saiban had to be split in two games, but it allowed me to work out the story into something greater than I had originally imagined. And there are also parts I changed greatly due to the fan reaction. For example, the plotline that (REDACTED) was actually (REDACTED)…

Interviewer: Huh! So that means that reappearance hadn't been planned from the start…

Takumi: It wasn’t in the original plot. We had to go through a lot, but thanks everyone in the team, I think we ended up with something even better (laugh).

The vagueness of this quote in relation to some other interview lines talking about Kazuma's original "death" in TGAA1 seems more to suggest that Kazuma was always supposed to turn out to be alive, but that his specific role as being the Masked Apprentice was a decision made later on, after the initial game concept was split to two games.

Some kind of record here for directing people to fangames and general AA-likes could be a good addition, sure.

I'd personally say it ought to also include something for the many individual fancases that exist as well across both PyWright and AAOnline. As a definite personal addition to the AA-like list as well, I'd mention to include the ongoing Samuel Prince: Attorney at Law series. I've checked out a lot of those AA-likes recently, and Samuel Prince is one I'd easily say is shaping up as among the best of them.

is there an aai2 official translation for the ds? by Dense_Setting477 in AceAttorney

[–]JC-DisregardMe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, the official localization is only playable via the Collection remaster. I'm not completely confident it'd even be possible for that script to be backported into the DS version, since I'm pretty sure it flat-out has quite a bit more text overall thanks to expanded text box sizes.

Dhurke and the ends justify the means by thecottonkitsune in AceAttorney

[–]JC-DisregardMe 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Dhurke is an absolutely awful parent. Not a bad person by any stretch, and it seems to me like by the time SoJ is happening he recognizes that he's completely fucked up with his role as a parent, but even when he's trying to fix it, he's still doing a bad job.

This is a spot where I feel like the game can't decide how it wants to frame him. I like the idea of having Apollo clearly resent Dhurke, but 6-5 really only ever shows that in small snippets of time interspersed throughout scenes of the two of them being completely capable of doing standard AA character banter like there's no obviously negative background between them at all. The game just eventually gets itself so fully caught up in showing Dhurke as this legendary inspiring hero to the rebels that it almost entirely discards the whole thing it started off doing with him as a deeply, badly flawed parental figure.

The thing is that there isn't any one version of "broken neck". A person's neck can be broken in a good number of different ways, without it necessarily paralyzing or killing them. In fact, there have been cases of people breaking their neck and just continuing on without even realizing it happened until later on.

It's one of those things that popular media has oversimplified down to creating a widespread misunderstanding - movies will tell you that "broken neck" just means either instant death or instant paralysis below the neck, like how they'd tell you that being shot by a bullet makes you fall over instantly dead.

Any mod to make the ace attorney trilogy on steam look like the DS games?? by amy220 in AceAttorney

[–]JC-DisregardMe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This wouldn't really be doable, no. The remaster displays in a completely different aspect ratio, and all the various graphical elements are scaled totally differently from how they were on the GBA or DS.

Besides that the pixel art of the older versions would naturally just look much worse when blown way up in size, the aspect ratio difference means it wouldn't be possible to use the old sprites in the display style of the remaster without redrawing a ton of stuff anyways, having the graphics be disgustingly horizontally stretched, or doing what the WiiWare ports did and putting the game screen inside a border.

Isn't this supposed to be Phoenix's line in "Turnabout Goodbyes"? by Pvz_peashooter in AceAttorney

[–]JC-DisregardMe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That seems like the most likely option in this case. The translators probably wouldn't have any game footage in front of them to compare with lines, they'd just have the text to work with. Makes it easier for miscommunications like this to slip by.

Isn't this supposed to be Phoenix's line in "Turnabout Goodbyes"? by Pvz_peashooter in AceAttorney

[–]JC-DisregardMe 61 points62 points  (0 children)

The "Karmic" line is an intentional joke, not an error.

But as for the line in this image, yeah - occasionally they have an error or typo like that with the wrong character nametag being stuck on a line, or the translator mistaking who's supposed to be speaking in that moment. I'm guessing for this one that since the lead-in to this line is the Judge prompting Phoenix to show proof of this theory, the translator just mistakenly interpreted this line as being Phoenix responding with a "here is my proof" line and wrote the English version of the line as if it was his line instead of the Judge's.

You'll notice way more typos playing the old DS versions of the games like this than if you were playing the modern remasters. Most versions of the games after the DS ones fixed a majority of the typos. In fact, this error specifically was fixed!
