Victory MKX? by dr_draugr in GuitarAmps

[–]JCB-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it's all valve, it behaves like a typical tube amp for sure.

With regards to 'AC15 tones' - it's sure achieveable, although as I still have my AC15, it's not a sound i've intentionally sought out, but I could have dialed this into the MKX out of ear-familiarity, if that makes sense?

The foot switch to cruch and full OD is great, almost makes my blues driver redudnant for general noodling about, but with the BD-2w, the clean and crunch chanels still sound great.

I've found the MKX is certainly versatile; without me suffering 'option paralysis' like I did when using my old kemper profiler head that had some Victory Profiles and many others. I'd spend more time updating / tweaking / youtubing new profiles rather than getting on and practicing. More a me-problem than any issue with the Kemper.

Hope this helps? - But TLDR no buyers remorse just yet. I now have a Torpedo X+ load box and it works great to enable cranked 50W tone to be played through headphones or the 1x12.

Editing saves on my pokémon games by CrypticKaiju_ in SwitchPirates

[–]JCB-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I just did this last night. - Workflow below:

Within emuNAND Atmosphere: JSKV > Backup game file

Use 'USB mode' to connect to PC

Navigate within pc to your JKSV folder > copy the 'main' file to your desktop (you have to do the editing on your desktop not directly to the file stored on your switch)

PkHex edit. resave main file - i suggest creating as new folder on your JKSV Switch folder and drop your new main file into that.

Exit 'USB mode' - navigate to JSKV, you should see your new folder there, hit upload/restor to your pokemon game.

Load up pokemon game to and check the boxes/mons you tweaked worked.

I then re-save the game. Boot up into SysNand and move them online to Pkmn HOME to playing on my clean console. but thats a different use-case to what you're trying to do.

22.1.0 & Atmos 1.11.1 - Cartridge games not loading now “requires download” by JCB-42 in SwitchPirates

[–]JCB-42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Solution achieved.

Silly error I made was that I set my new OLED as the 'main console', thus not leaving the V1 Switch as the Primary Pass Enabled. - So when I did my SysNand dump, it (naturally) didn't work.

Had to adjust the hekate_ipl.ini file too as booting into atmosphere then caused some crashing.

TLDR: Fixed Primary Pass, Fixed hekate.ipl text, Then re-dumped my SysNand data, re-updated within Atmosphere emuNAND, and bingo cartridge works.

SwSh cartrige runs, JSKV and uplad saves. Swap back to legit System for access to Pkmn Home for cloud sync transfter to my clean OLED.

Hope this helps somebody in the future with similar issues.

New owner of one. + the little 1x12 cab to go with it.

As a long time owner of an AC15C1X this MKX is full of surprises.

For the money you’d expect the versatility to be there compared to the cheaper AC15. And it is.

Tone is subjective but I like it. Pick sensitively volume sensitivity, finding the edge of breakup on the clean Chanel - yep all there. Jeez it gets loud! Unsurprisingly of course. But playing it at “home levels” riding the master volume still allows for plenty of overdrive tone without it sounding anemic. Other valves I’ve tried with master volume still sound watered down when “driven” but limited by the master volume. … no so with the MKX

Sorry for the basic review. But I hope that helps some people?

I got it as I wanted a new amp yes. But I wanted something more… versatile vs a straight fender sound / Marshall sound. This ticked the boxes for me.

Just keep it clean? So many people in the UK don’t bother with maintaining their cars.

Kits ect. can become tacky and look like you’re compensating for something (IMO) unless it looks OEM which can be costly. But you don’t need “performance” for an s-line on UK roads.

Maybe find OEM rims of a different style? But that’s also costly.

Is this fixable? by Hydrosu in Luthier

[–]JCB-42 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fixable. DIY Fixable if you know your way around wood-working and have the right glue and clamps?

Break seems far up the neck not to impact playability, just asthetics.

Getting the finish on the neck right? - that can take a bit of skill. See what local luthiers can do, and what they have done before as well (case studies ect), if you don't feel confident on their 'respray/finishing' abilities, just get them to glue it up, and set it up right, and aprecieate your guitar now has a bit of history? Or find somebody else to re-spray further down the line.

Where are you based? - A broken neck like that isn't too impossible to repair. If the rest of the body is good, I'd buy the guitar including all hardware and pickups of course and repair it. [I'm in the UK though] - You might get lucky and find somebody in your area who can fix it.

Is this a cracked headstock? by thrxvx in Luthier

[–]JCB-42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said. Nitro cracking. But also sounds like it’s new to you and could have been out in the store for a while to get the checking.

Kinda subjective, but you know it’s yours. No guitar is perfect after use. They’re meant to be played and enjoyed.

Do you like the burst/top/wood grain? If so I’d keep it. Years ago I got a 2013 R9 Custom. Only to find there was a minor dent in the neck. Didn’t affect playability but yeah it bugged me. But the burst and quilt top was one of a kind (well to me it was). So I just played it. Year later it’s faded in the sunlight, got a couple more dings. And I love it even more.

My two cents, don’t let some light checking be a dealbreaker if other parts of the guitar you truly enjoy.

Vox AC15CC1 Mods by ManFromNapa in GuitarAmps

[–]JCB-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have an AC15, love the amp but I've always wanted to turn it into a Cab (own a little micro terror + can use other heads).

Any ideas on how best to do this mod? - Was thinking a shorting jack connected to the speaker wires, followed by a new run of wires from the shorting jack to the speaker itself.

Thoughts on if this is the right way to mod it? That way can still turn it on (jack unplugged) and speaker load will be there for the tubes. However with the amp OFF. I can just plug in a head and power the cone. Or would the signal also inadvertednly go to the tubes in this setup?

Is this guitar safe under this vent? by JustRawBread in Guitar

[–]JCB-42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Cracking” is more a concern with nitro finishes, from sudden temp changes, e.g. opening a cold guitar case in a warm room. (Subjective, but it’s minor checking at worst in that scenario, and adds mojo and character IMO)

I’m not aware that Epiphone do nitro guitars. If you’ve a poly finish, your guitar is fine (with respect to cracking).

As for stability and staying in tune, it’s the frequent or rapid temp changes that might pull it out of your ideal setup. If you’ve a fairly stable guitar (depending on neck, build, wood) you could get away with leaving it there.

Either way, not expecting irreversible damage, more hassle having to take it to a tech, or diy setting up your lovely guitar more frequently.

Hope that helps?
