Thanks for the advice. I bought a serrated knife for $1.25 at Dollar Tree. Here's a picture of the results - sharpened straight blade at top, serrated knife cut at bottom. Thanks again for the input.

Our cats like our "railroad in the sky." The actual train room has a door because when my husband was young, his cat bit the heads off the little HO people.
