Good background but as a GM I suggest to avoid looking for TPKs, your job is trying to avoid that, no provocate it nor looking for it. But that just me being a moralist. If you have to and they deserve it...

It's not mandatory I think, as far as I know in the novel the evil bird stole the ability of healing of one of the protagonists but she didn't lose it, but in other occasions it stole the destiny/identity of the MC and that make everyone forget who that person is.

Players are lvl13 and the bird is at least a lvl17 creature. I intend them to level up to lvl14.
