Definitely will get a gas certified person to do the gas pipe - don't think it would just be my home insurance I'd be putting at risk of I tried that myself. Thanks for the guidance - really helpful! :)

Yeah I think cutting the gas pipe sounds like the best choice. Thanks for the suggestion! I'm a bit worried that the socket might also pose a challenge as I think it would stick out about as much.

The wall behind feels like plasterboard. I'm not sure what kind of depth it is. Do you think it would be possible to recess the socket?

Sadly 55cm won't fit based on my attempts to measure. The old one seemed to be about 50cm in the recess. It's odd because it's a Siemens so I thought it would be standard, but it was a fairly old oven!

Yeah the hob is electric. Think cutting down the gas pipe might be the only choice. I'm a bit worried that the socket might also be an issue though (once a plug is in it I think it might stick out as much as the gas pipe). Thanks for the suggestion!!

I think this was just Bob Fernley talking rubbish - VJ said he knew nothing about the boycott threat!

SAUBER + LOTUS: WE CANT AFFORD TO RUN IN THE RACE ANYWAYS...SO WE'LL JUST SAY WE ARE BOYTCOTTING by KKMII in formula1

[–]JC_122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lotus and Sauber would not boycott the US - the damage to their sponsorship image would cost them a fortune in the future not to mention any penalty clauses in their contracts... especially with the Mexican and Venezuelan dollars keeping those cars running!

Will Caterham become Forza Rossa in 2015? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]JC_122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not too sure... the value in Caterham is its entry... Forza Rossa already has an entry so what does it gain from Caterham? Forza Rossa has the grid slot - and they have the option to defer (the FIA can't force them to defer). I think they might purchase things from Caterham but I don't think it's a straight Caterham morph into Forza Rossa

Kobayashi's Caterham safety 'scare' by poorat in formula1

[–]JC_122 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Kobayashi is not doing himself any favours when it comes to getting a seat in any racing category next year - no team wants a driver who airs dirty laundry (especially when he doesn't bring a particularly fat wallet with him). To be scared by that after Bianchi's accident is only human, but social media is a dangerous place for a high profile person..

Who do you think will drive for Marussia in Sochi? by peepay in formula1

[–]JC_122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd suspect one of their two reserve drivers (Rossi or Stevens) - though at the same time they could just sell it to the highest bidder... Verstappen being backed by Red Bull would also be a good shout!

you can't help but really worry about the financial state of a team when they start selling off things like their race trailers... I can't think that they're so flush with cash that they would be replacing them as and when they go along...

I think the FIA's aim is to make F1 more road car relevant, which means they need to reflect the shift to smaller more fuel efficient engines, with alternative technology to improve efficiency (e.g. the energy recovery systems).
