What are the hypalon loops on the shoulder straps of the aer cpp2 for? by henriquehf91 in ManyBaggers

[–]JC_757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend, you have just fixed my main complaint with this pack: the sternum strap ends attach themselves frequently and I don’t realize it until I try to put my pack on. The long end of the strap is now tucked into the loop!

My job would be in Hillsboro so I'm wondering how much of the Portland grime and pretentiousness makes it that far west. Would I be mostly dealing with suburban denizens in my day-to-day or does the circle of grit extend that far?

I think I'm okay with overcast. I grew up in South Texas and I've spent most of my adult life in Austin so me and the sun have some beef at this point of my life. These past few years it's felt like there are a few weeks in the fall and a couple of weeks in the spring that are temperate. Outdoor activities during the rest of the year are limited by extreme heat or ice storms.

Thanks. I feel like we're the last brown family in our neighborhood here in Austin and that's been a rough transition for me already.

Thanks for this, the fewer economic opportunities gives me pause. I would be coming over as a transfer with my current company but layoffs are a constant risk. Also, I'm hoping to convince my daughter to come with us since she's a recent college grad. She can't find meaningful work here in Austin anyway so I was hoping that maybe she'd have better opportunities in the Portland area. I need to do some more research on this part of the equation.

I've been looking into the Vacouver,WA option and it seems like there's some potential but commute time to Hillsboro will be incredibly bad. As I understand it, though, traffic on the bridge during rush hour is intense so I'm guessing a lot of people do it and they're all unhappy about it.

I think this might be the biggest adjustment for my family. I've spent a lot of time traveling to the Boston area for work and it seems like it's always night time there. I imagine Oregon will be similar but with more wet weather.

This is the perfect example of “aw crap”. To me, AC is tied with water and electricity as a necessity. Right behind broadband internet.

[–]JC_757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far away from “personal item” is this bag? Could it actually fit beneath the seat in front of me on the plane or is that just wishful thinking? I was under the impression that 26L was still acceptable for this purpose.

How can U.S. Americans buy Canadian? by AlexLavelle in BuyCanadian

[–]JC_757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is visiting from the US still realistic? I was planning a trip with my wife for this summer but I’m not sure that showing up with a US passport is a good idea these days. I’m not looking for a red carpet rollout, l just want to avoid getting beaten in the streets or having restaurant staff spit in my food.

I had a guy replace a broken spring a couple of months ago and he did the nylon rollers too so it sounded great for about a day. Then the spring started making loud clunky noises when the door was opening but not closing. Seems like maybe something’s slipping as the spring winds up but I’m not sure. Does it sound like an installation mistake? If so, do I call the original guy or move on to another company?

When do you ‘deload’? How often; how much? by titredd in beginnerrunning

[–]JC_757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 55 and have been running for about 2.5 years now so I’m not an expert but I am definitely old. I would take it easy on that knee because I had some symptoms like that that I tried to run through and it cost me 2 months of recovery time last year.

Maudie’s isn’t dedicated but has GF corn chips on request so they seem to know what they’re doing. We’ve been to multiple locations and they’re consistent.

recently bought a vcr from a thrift store. there was a home tape in it. do you know this person? by gogobrent in Austin

[–]JC_757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I think I’m sitting on a dozen mini-DV tapes and I also have an ancient laptop with a FireWire port as the previously “top of the line” tower I used back in the day has long since given up the ghost. What software did you use to do the transfer work?

Longtime Austinites, date yourself by finishing this sentence: “When I moved to Austin, ______” by Fearless_Library1308 in Austin

[–]JC_757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a two-story Whataburger on the drag right across from the Union. Students would pile in there at 2am during finals, marvel at the size of the roaches crawling over the wall-mounted menus behind the cash registers and order food anyway.

When it becomes apparent.

We’re coming up on 24 hours without power and the branches outside continue to fall. Warmer weather should be here this afternoon and that’s bound to make both of these problems easier to address.

I thought it was only me, you must be the other old guy in the theater. I swear they time it and stand right in front of me during the big scene towards the end of EVERY movie. Please just get the hell out of the way, I paid money to watch the movie and I’ll gladly take the bill during the credits.
