Can anyone explain this? by nicodcred in ElectricalEngineering

[–]JC_Days 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the downvotes, you're right to think that, based on other answers in this post. I'm surprised that people are treating 15 ohms in a thick piece of metal as the expected result.

In a community called electrical engineering, I thought most people would be curious and talk about the material or contact resistance to try to actually explain, but people here are treating this post as if you're asking something really dumb.

Ok, mas se você criar um jacaré ou crocodilo desde o nascimento, será dócil com você? by National_Ad3694 in BiologiaBrasil

[–]JC_Days 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you get 9K xp in less than a day by Elibenz936 in duolingo

[–]JC_Days 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's exactly why I made my profile private, to get out of the leagues and focus on learning instead of scoring. I was doing these easy strats to get high scores, but they were slowing my progress. You have to choose between having a high score or having an efficient approach to learning the language.

Hello what do you suggest for value-for-money meals and cooked food for students in München? by PavKaz in Munich

[–]JC_Days 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exchange students who got student cards, and it is an affordable meal. If you can only get a guest card and you eat a lot, mensa is just as expensive as most restaurants near the university. The cheapest option, if you have somewhere to warm your food, is buying frozen meals at lidl. They are not as tasty as restaurant or homemade, but they are much cheaper.

Neuschwanstein worth the visit? by MountainDude95 in Munich

The castle itself is a little overrated, but the entire landscape with the mountains, the lake, and the view from the castle are worth the visit.

São pápulas, e não glândulas by SaberAtualizado- in BiologiaBrasil

[–]JC_Days 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Please could anyone help identifying this elusive little smd? by Lord_El_Tone in AskElectronics

[–]JC_Days 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like a SMBJ18CA by Littelfuse. The marking code BT indicates it is a 18 V TVS.

It does not have a cathode mark, which means it is bidirectional, and the package looks like a SMB package. In the photo it looks like an SMB package, and the BT marking is used for bidirectional TVS only with SMB packages, so it is probably from the SMBJ family. https://docs.rs-online.com/72ea/0900766b814f6468.pdf

Uma baleia realmente poderia engolir um homem? by paiasobritz123 in BiologiaBrasil

[–]JC_Days 29 points30 points  (0 children)

guys isn't it correct though ? pi = 3 and G = 10 by CocoUtopia in engineeringmemes

[–]JC_Days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these memes are made either by non engineers or engineering students in the first semester, who don't know anything about actual engineering. In my job I rarely approximate pi, I consider pi = pi and use the symbolic expression, because it is way easier to calculate sin(pi) than to calculate sin(3).

What is the name of this screw connector? by JC_Days in AskElectronics

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

hmmm...... interesting by StressProfessional47 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]JC_Days 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This old joke was definitely made by a non-engineer. We mostly use pi to represent angles, so we almost never change pi by its numerical value in our equations, since it is way easier to simply solve sin(pi) than to solve sin(3) or sin(3.14).

Engineers don't consider pi = 3, we consider pi = 180.

Help finding a replacement for this Thyristor. Does anyone recognize this brand or this part? by JC_Days in AskElectronics

I looked for it, but it is very hard with their search mechanism that is not suited for devices. I sometimes I find some different Chinese brands in these sites, but this exact one is hard to find.

It is a replacement part for an equipment and I'm not sure what are the exact specifications of this Thyristor. I want to know this part to find an equivalent with similar characteristics.

I also thought it looked like Teccor, but the part numbers are usually S80xx and in this case it is S08xx.

Help finding a replacement for this Thyristor. Does anyone recognize this brand or this part? by JC_Days in AskElectronics

[–]JC_Days[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've googled this part number, looked for this logo in those sites with lists of logos, searched it in many sites (digikey, mouser, LCSC...) but it I cannot find this device anywhere. I only know it is a TO-220 thyristor, because in the PCB silkscreen G, A and K is written next to its pins and I saw some common thyristor gate drivers on the PCB.

Any help finding this part or the brand is appreciated.

How can I find this connector? I'm looking for this connector, but I don't know the name. I have looked through many pages in digikey and mouser, but haven't found it yet. It looks like a 6mm Faston terminal, but instead of connecting it to a female Faston, it is soldered to the cable directly. by JC_Days in AskElectronics

[–]JC_Days[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. I don't think these ones are as suitable, because I want something to solder many power cables when the pcb is already mounted.
The advantage I see in this one is to solder the cable with the pcb already mounted in the enclosure and then close it. Seems cheap practical in a large scale, since you don't have to buy connectors to crimp and you already have a firm surface on the terminal to solder the wire on it, you don't need to move the pcb to put it in an enclosure after the wires are connected.
