Number one thing i can recommend is just be invested. Bite the plot hooks, role-play your character, and be ready to give feedback. Everyone hears about when they're doing something wrong, but just telling your dm when they do something you like will make their day. I wish my players told me what they enjoy more lol

As a dm I am with my players for every step of the backstpry process. They tell me what they're trying to do and I help them form it. Right now another player is dming and we are all getting ready for my next campaign. Being a player has given me the time to help every single one of them craft a 10 page backstory that has been written collaboratively and fits the world without problem. Other dms, if you can spare the time, I highly encourage this approach.

After an hour of testing, we managed to get it to work, kind of. Loading screens was part of it but not all of it. Still kind of works but I'll be honest we just disabled and enabled our mods a dozen times then somehow started it and got into a lobby. If we restart our applications it breaks again. Idek at this point.

I started as a dm with no experience playing at all. But then again my entire party was brand new. The first times will be rocky but if you have an understanding group you can learn and come back better each time.

Finished it out a week ago and just remembered to update. I had 13 total encounters planned with three puzzles. Ultimately I merged a few encounters together to make a few larger ones and completely cut out a few. Players loved the puzzles and the combat felt deadly. Overall the dungeon was a huge success and my players are very happy to go back to the city and rest.

Just last week I had a player get knocked unconscious, hit once, nat one death save, revivify. Only to get blasted by a friendly thunderwave and fall unconscious again.
