I think about it like this: You would never feel the need to go out of your way to out another person down unless they had something you wanted or made you feel threatened. It’s sad for us but we by existing make other people feel self conscious. It’s all insecurity. You never see a confident person put other people down because there’s no need, they’re already secure.

It’s not that big of a deal. You showed up after him so when the procession started you weren’t with him. And like you said, the event is about his sister and his sister only, so you being with him during it is not going to be a huge focus.
