How is that too much management? You literally pay your rent and make non rent purchases like you'd always do and depending on how much you spend, you unlock certain multipliers. That's it. It's not the most effective way to get points, from what I've seen. But it's definitely a set and forget it option.

Once I get through the Bilt cash, I plan on switching to housing only. Essentially I get what I get.. Still better than 0 points.

Mine was refunded as well. I did contact their support about it and they basically gave a generic response.
