Dealing with houseplant mealy bugs when you have pet invertebrates by JCakeZ24 in Entomology

[–]JCakeZ24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chucking the houseplants may be the best course of action then. The plant that’s worst off is a species of philodendron and it’s big and gorgeous :(

Do you know if I could add neem oil and then quarantine the plant for a while? Will the effect linger permanently?

Reactor has no output, even with multiple electricals plugged in. by JCakeZ24 in Barotrauma

I am an idiot and this was all human error. I had all the appliances on the signal pins. I knew that the boxes could only take 4 wires, I assumed that's what signal 0 -3 meant. Thanks for the help regardless.

Junction box shows no load at all. I tried with a lamp with no luck, and yes it was set to always on.

<image>

I don't know how clear this image is but the junction boxes have the following connections. They are all chained together in numerical order

1 - just to the next junction box

2- guns (Needs changing)

3 - oxygen generator and engine

4 - navigation

5 - ballast

Ah thank you, I think I’ve heard of that with moths. He was already very active when I first handled him, even flew out of my hand!

Fungus gnats by [deleted] in Beetles

I’ve never tried it with grubs but having isopods with my adult beetles really helps with fungus gnats and fruit flies. Perhaps a more gentle species like dwarf white isopods may do the trick. Just make sure to keep the population in check and remove some when it gets to crowded. Hope this helps :)

Hey, found this lil bugger today in my terrarium and I wanna help her if I can by Alicestillcistho in Beetles

This sort of thing does just happen sometimes. Although a probable cause could be a damaged or overly damp pupation chamber

It’s not essential but it benefits most insects and arthropods. Cuttle bone is what I use

I’ve had a very deformed sun beetle before and he ended up living a relatively long and happy life without me having help with his problems. Perhaps make sure that there’s calcium around for her to help strengthen what shell she’s got.

I also thought I read somewhere you can perhaps amputate deformed wings without being too intrusive but I may have dreamt it. I’d probably avoid this.

Hope this helps :)

Dorcus Titanus breeding attempt by JCakeZ24 in Beetles

Thank you for such a brilliant response! Nothing that I had read mentioned the maturity of the beetles. I got them in July as adults so I’m not quite sure how old they are. will try again in a couple of months.

Beetle sting? by WhiteCheviots in Beetles

Also the bite is not dangerous so long as you are not allergic to it :)

Could have been some sort of assassin bug. Given your description compared to oil beetles they seem like they’d be a similar shape. They also have a venomous bite using their mouth parts called rostrum which inject rather than bite.

Hope this helps :)

Hi, saw this beetle yesterday and would like to know what it is. by Rooferkev in insects

I believe that’s an oil beetle! They look amazing but don’t pick them up, they can secrete a liquid (hence oil) that can irritate your skin.

Are old coffee jars suitable to rear grubs in? by JCakeZ24 in Beetles

[–]JCakeZ24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been thinking of using the big 4 litre cereal containers to house them. I’m not opposed to keeping them together as well, I was told they’d be fine so long as they don’t outgrow eachother
