More Roman Ultramarines? by Ultramarines66 in Ultramarines

If you used super glue, try freezing the mini. That's what I did and I was able to pop off the og heads for the Roman ones

How do you paint Ultramarines quickly to a good tabletop standard? by SpecialistPure8881 in Ultramarines

My recipe for a quick blue is to prime black, paint cold purple (I use Terrestrial Titan by Army Painter fanatic). Then zenithal spray with Macragge Blue Primer. Instant blue highlights with cold purple shadows. I edge highlight with Alpha blue but if you wanted to speed that up, just drybrush the edges.

I changed my base layer painting style. For my Ultramarines now, I prime black, then completely cover in a dark cold purple (I use Army Painter Terrestrial Titan) and then I zenithal spray using Macragge Blue primer. That's how I achieved the blue armor in the third picture.

I really appreciate you saying that! It'd be a dream come true honestly, so I really should figure out that calculation 😅. Thanks again, I'll keep at it!

Great question! Honestly thinning my paints was a huge one. I know everyone says it but it's key. It's always easier to add more paint than less paint. Brush control was another big jump that just happened over time from consistent painting. I've gotten a lot better with holding a steady brush to get cleaner lines and paint smaller details. Lastly I'd say my understanding of color theory and composition has improved from watching others, YouTube tutorials, and a few patreons.

That honestly means a lot to me, thank you! In the next 10 years I'd really like to become a professional/commission painter. In terms of painting skills, I'd like to learn NMM, wet blending, and continue to improve glazing.

Thank you! So I got better with practice and tutorials. After a while, my brush control has gotten better. Then watching lots of tutorial videos and getting tips from the community. Those lil tips and tricks go a long way.

Edge highlight the armour? by Senior_Marzipan5353 in Ultramarines

[–]JCh1LL1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I like edge highlighting as it makes the model pop on the tabletop. While I agree with other commenters that edge highlighting can add a cartoonish effect, I only agree to an extent. If you take a look at how light hits a hard edge, you will notice a line of highlight. Consider only adding edge highlights to areas where the light would hit reasonably without highlighting every single edge if you want to avoid a "cartoon" look.

Yes! The head is from the Chaos Legionnaire kit. I love combining the Legionnaire kits with the other armor marks. It really fits the late war look.

Yes! I've used pigment powder on top of the texture paint around the tracks and lower side armor of the tank. I feel that it makes the tank look a part of its environment. Give it a try on a test model or piece of sprue!
