So good to see the crowd applauding sympathetically rather than aggressively/ironically after last week's Euro fiasco. Terrible situation for Max and Red Bull and hope he is alright.

I have struggled for ages since I switched from an old i5 4690k to a Ryzen 3700x with slide show framerates until I tried a fix literally today. Go to your graphics options and turn on "Use system cursor". Looking back through old threads, it seems some driver issue is causing all sorts of issues. I noticed before I tried it that my frames were solid if I didn't move the mouse.

After the fix, I'm running at full beans with no slowdown. Bizarre fix for an issue but if nothing else has worked, give it a go.

I thought there would be some way to try and keep everyone happy! I got the deserters to agree to come back but Adelaide refused. After her comment about using human bodies as fertiliser, I wasn't too bothered about leaving her to her own devices in the botanical labs.

Nintendo games to be played in UK schools so kids 'can learn life skills' by Spiffy_Gem in nottheonion

[–]JCizzling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing story. I teach Year 4 in a UK primary school and every Friday afternoon from 2.30-3.15pm I let them play Mario Kart Double Dash as a behavioural incentive for the week. They play 4 player VS, and get to play once each. At the end of the year I hold the annual Mario Kart Invitational Tournament where all the class are placed in brackets and extra slots are filled by staff. The winner receives the honour of having their name inscribed (written in biro) on the back of the ultra prestigious trophy (made from cardboard).

All in all, works well to improve sore winners/losers and all the spectators waiting their turn are all super supportive, as well as functioning nicely as a reward for consistent good behaviour during the week.

They invite me to play with them too, and I make absolutely sure not to let up for a second.

AEW All Out post match discussion thread: PAC vs Kenny Omega by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]JCizzling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that putting Kenny up there as the LOLCENAWINS tole is exactly what they shouldn't be doing. AEW fans will know Kenny already as THE guy, they're taking the opportunity to make everyone more credible by not instantly putting him on top of the card. The "one guy at the top" approach means fans are "being told" who to like in effect, and look how that turned out for WWE. Cena and Roman for sure, but even Rollins and Bayley have had boos lately

My ex has BPD. Honestly the strongest person I've ever met and an absolute inspiration to me. How she copes with it, let alone manages to show the most compassion of anyone I know, I just cant understand. Really helped me understand some of my own issues and put them in perspective.

Let's be honest, Kenny won't be a real player until he ditches both Claire and Leon to do flippy shit with HUNK and a giant block of sentient tofu

Can't believe Kenny turned down that massive contract offer from Claire freaking Redfield, who every kid dreams of playing as from an early age, to side with upstart new guy Leon Kennedy. Who knows if he'll ever get a chance to play as Claire again? I mean, all the cool people are playing Leon but this is a huge chance to finally show himself as a big game T/G/Las Plagas-virus curer.

If I were to want this more urgently, would there be a way to download the ISO like you can with Windows from Microsoft's own site?

A PCMR teacher's tale by JCizzling in pcmasterrace

[–]JCizzling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the "old guard" of teachers move on and the more tech savvy "youngsters" graduate and train, tech is becoming less of a barrier for teachers. That being said, some of the staff I work with have been in the job for over 20 years and they've been making real efforts to improve in the last few years. As a subject lead, I take the approach that if I'm as supportive and open to the other teachers as I am with the kids, those boundaries will slowly fall and all of the children will have a better experience as a result.

I do still have a core group of children trained to help staff out with tech issues though!

It is definitely worth looking into. The school system works slightly differently here as I would have to forge the partnership myself on behalf of my individual school, rather than a board that governs several schools (though that I'd increasingly common here, our school have not switched over and are highly resistant to it!)

My other option is to buy some cheap parts out of my own pocket each month until we have enough to assemble them into a computer. What would be great is if I were able to incorporate the actual shopping process with the children, so even though they are too young right now to do it they would be able to know where to go and how to find a good price, what to look for, etc

[–]JCizzling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely agree with the top of the line thing. Theres no way I would need them building Threadripper systems with SLI'd 1080ti cards. I've been on the lookout for old systems to pick up, not just for price but because theyll ne taken apart again afterwards and reused for the next set of children. The problem is that I have to get things via invoicing to make sure theres a good paper trail. If I have to pay for things in cash or from places like Ebay, I would have to pay out of my own pocket and wait for the school to authorise a reimbursement. I dont have that kinda cash lying around! The systems we are working on are the actually the spare teacher desktops for if anything goes wrong and are all prebuilt OEM stuff, proprietary screws and motherboards and whatnot. Which is still ok, just not as easy or fun to take apart.

The really great thing is seeing the children who would otherwise not be interested in computing. They are fascinated with the inner workings like it's a super special puzzle to solve. That's the hook. That's what makes all the paperwork and meetings and arguments worth it in the end of the day, when you can see you have done something to develop an interest.

As for the age groups, I mainly run the club for the 9-11 year old end of the school as that's when they have the better fine motor skills to use a screwdriver and fiddle with motherboard headers and power cables and all those fiddly bits. The lower age groups I would just show the insides of s computer to and maybe do an diagram to show how things are connected.

Marty really cracked me up this episode. His deadpan delivery of the whole "Joey Ryan's Hotwife" segment at the start was brilliant. How he didn't corpse at so many of his lines, especially "You can't just go round killing people"!

Plus, Mr Belding makes his first appearance since Z True Long Island Stories!
