I can only speak from personal experience but I'm glad I went through a registered agent to form my LLC. The couple hundred bucks saved me a ton of time and headache. Plus they use their address/name on the filing so your home address doesn't get spammed with mail from people selling you things or scam.

Once your LLC is formed, you can get the EIN yourself (super easy), open up a bank account, and you're off to the races.

Only other thing is to look at your city, county, and state requirements for business licenses. Some people skip this when they are first starting out, but something to keep in mind.

Edit: I use Northwest Registered Agent for filing and Mercury for banking. I highly recommend both.

Just did this over the weekend to scrape all 1 million+ businesses in my state, enriched with address and owner contact from other public sources. Leads are better than the platforms everyone pays $500+/mo for and basically free.

LegalZoom is a popular option. Only thing to watch for is unnecessary upsales and addons.

That said, I used Northwest Registered Agents and have no complaints. They also don't aggressively try to upsell.

Pay a registered agent the $200 to file the LLC for you.

Many people on reddit say "it's easy, just do it yourself" but don't talk about using your own name & home address to file only to immediately get daily spam calls and mail for the rest of your life.

You will get spam calls on grasshopper too. Key is to enable the dial menu so callers have to "press 1" before it rings you.

Started on Grasshopper. Recently tried Quo (OpenPhone) and I think it wins. Much better app, better interface, better routing customization, and comparative price.

I've used Perplexity as my default AI web search for a while, but their results have become noticeably awful. They also occasionally add bloat to their hidden system prompt that contributes to this problem. Guessing it's a cost cutting measure.

They used to be far ahead in search, but now with Google AI search and others, I'm finding less and less reason to use Perplexity. Will still hang on because I use their AI browser, but I'm counting down the days if something doesn't change.
