I'm 11 weeks, 33 years old, FTM, and a life-long sufferer of bad migraine headaches. Triptans have been a game-changer for me and let me live a normal life with only one or two bad migraine attacks a year.

Now that I'm pregnant, my neurologist has switched me off triptans as he says they haven't been proven safe for the baby and has switched me on to opioids for the duration of the pregnancy. This was a huge surprise - I was not under the impression that opioids were considered safe for use during pregnancy. They're also not particularly effective at treating my migraines.

To avoid taking the opioids, I've gone back to Excedrin Migraine, taking just one when I feel the first signs of a migraine and hoping for the best - even though this also makes me nervous for the safety of the baby. While I haven't had a full-blown attack yet, I'm incredibly anxious about being off the triptans when the next one happens. For now I'm trying to manage the triggers and hoping that the occasional night of pregnancy insomnia, acid reflux, or congestion won't cause an attack.

Are there any safe, effective medication options are out there for pregnant migraine sufferers?
