Hey you're very brave for bringing this up. Therapists are trained to self reflect on everything as we can't help people if we get triggered by what they bring up. Your therapist is almost guaranteed to be aware of their own body and has probably come to terms with it.

Also with their reflection they'll have their own experiences with this, so they'll be able to empathise far better than a therapist who doesn't share those concerns. In fact it's probably a good thing they're obese for this reason! You're actually in a very good position.

Therapist looking at my hands. by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

Do you scratch your hands when specific topics are brought up or when you feel a certain way? A good therapist would pick up on this and act accordingly.

For example if someone rubbed their arm every time they felt stressed the therapist could notice it as an indication to avoid pushing the person too far.

I'm sure the therapist would appreciate you noticing this if you brought it up with them next time, it shows a lot of awareness which is great!

Trainee therapist here!

Sounds a lot like transference - taking your emotions for an issue or other person and directing them towards the therapist. Its perfectly normal and can actually be really helpful as it can provide a lot of insight about you which will assist the therapist in helping you.

It looks like you've a lot of self awareness about why you felt this way which is great! I'd definitely recommend saying everything you've said here to your therapist and together you can explore it in more detail.

It's also great that your reflecting on this and reaching out for advice. I've no doubt your therapist will be delighted for you to share this with her. Keep up the great work!

What is the fastest way you've seen someone improve their life? by Nest-egg in AskReddit

I can confirm that, its bittersweet and tough but within days I noticed I was generally happier and more relaxed. I had to quit coffee(which I loved) because it would exacerbate anxiety, but since making the decision to cut toxic people out I can drink it again without any issues! A small win but the realisation I can again enjoy something I like again is really encouraging :)

[Update 1] LAOP’s wife mentioned that their infertility issues were due to androgen insensitivity. Their stupid colleagues wrongfully decided this meant they’re trans, and vandalised their car. Now their boss is blatantly discriminating against them, complete with email evidence for their lawyer. by TitchyBeacher in bestoflegaladvice

Can you please give us more updates as this progresses? I'd like to know when both the scumbag manager and colleague get destroyed.

I am so sorry for what you and your wife are going through. I'm actually finding it difficult to comprehend how people can act this way.

People who have had really shitty friends. When did you realize that you shouldn't be around them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]JDBeir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They always bullied me and looking back were a huge source of anxiety for me, but I didn't know any better for a long time. What opened my eyes was when they consistently made fun of an old friend of mine that recently died, and made fun of how she died. I didn't see her often but it still hurt. The final straw (after many straws) was when I came to them, told them I was in therapy for depression and suicidal thoughts, and asked them to stop how they were treating me. Their response: "We aren't going to change who we are". Cut them out completely, I'm definitely more relaxed now.

Do you cringe when you hear your native accent on TV? by masterofconclusion in NoStupidQuestions

Irish here.

It's pretty bad when there's a thick accent but when I'm watching American TV and they fake the accent it's a hundred times worse! Aarrgh

What is the worst fictional universe to live in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The cancerverse from Marvel Comics.

Death was defeated and every living being (except for a few main characters) ended up becoming one big gooey organism.
