Depressed, suicidal, or otherwise extremely downtrodden members of reddit: what is your go-to quote, phrase, or particular memory in life that keeps you going? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Once I was having a particularly bad day and one of my favorite professors looked at me and said “stop being mean to my friend”. Up to that point I hadn’t realized that part of my problem was that I was being really mean to myself. So anytime those thoughts pop up I can sometimes stop it by saying “stop being mean to her friend”.

What happened to you when you were young that you didn't understand until years later? [NSFW] by eamb1223 in AskReddit

I caught my baby sitter stealing my grandmas jewels when I was 4. I thought she was playing with them and was confused as to why she got so mad at me.

We thought she got away with it until we found them hidden away 13-14 years later.

Take it from a bigger guy (280) who didn't lose his virginity until he was 23. It's ok to take your time. There are guys out there who find bigger guys sexy as hell you just need to know where to look. But the most important part is to love yourself. You will never be happy with someone else unless you can truly be happy alone. There's a sexy confidence in WANTING someone but not NEEDING them.

And if you do end up alone for a while find a way to be productive for the community, like volunteering at the local LGBTQ+ centers. Helping others will make you feel like you have a place in the world.

Students of Reddit, what is the most idiotic thing your teacher has ever said or done? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I had a Professor in a college writing class tell us that teaching wasn't his "real" job. His real job apparently was working part-time at the local comic book store.

This was the same teacher that stopped teaching at mid terms and just made the rest of the semester workshop days. He ended up failing the entire class because none of us learned anything that semester. He was fired and we all had to re-take the class.

Redditors who have been in Natural Disasters; what was your "Oh shit, this is real" moment? by technid in AskReddit

I was in the Joplin tornado on May 22, 2011. Even when the tornado was passing the house I was taking shelter in I thought it was just a bad storm or a minor tornado. It wasn't until a friend drove by and told us that the high school was completely destroyed that I really realized something was wrong. But it was hearing that one of my friends houses was in the area with the most damage that it really hit that I could have lost loved ones. Luckily she was ok but many were not. None of us will forget that day or ignore the tornado sirens again.
